Well the post said it needs cleaning up! Might be embarrassed to post pics of it. LOL

Looks like a bargain. Good Luck!

The guy got back to me...Justin. He is bringing the van to my job ,how cool is that? My friend the mechanic is going to check it out for me there. After so many fails I am not so excited about it...HUH? Guess I dont want to be to careful about liking this van and finding out its not for me.

Maybe the people are just to tired to clean it up inside

I agree. Its a second vehicle so its not used a lot. With Sandy and all he probably didn't have time to clean it. It will be fun for me to clean it though.

The front bumper is sagging on the passenger side. Be sure to have mechanic check frame etc for accident damage.

I noticed that. I couldnt tell if it was a reflection or not. I told my friend about it and well we will see tomorrow. Thanks!!

Looks good in the pics. Consider that it will probably need new tires. Probably shocks too. Use those as negotiating points.

Ditto on the bumper droop.

Your being tired of shopping can be a benefit. Less emotion so you can work on a better deal.

Shoppers think they must make a "good" offer in order not to offend the seller. I used to feel that way. I changed my thought process on my last purchase and ended up saving myself a LOT of money.

Start waaayyyyy low and then work up. All they can say is No, and you are the one bringing cash to the table. They want your cash more than you need this particular van.

"How about $700?" is not an insult unless you are insulting in the way you offer it. Just be upfront and see where it goes. Don't ridicule the van or the seller, just offer less money.

You will not become long time friends. It's a business transaction.

I've learned a lot from "Pawn Stars" They always offer an incredibly low price. They do not put the item, or the seller, down. They just offer low money. The show might be corny but watch how they conduct their purchases. Kind of interesting.

What are your plans for the interior? If you are going to do a "pretty well all over re-do", then the interior isn't that important, IMHO.

We'll be anxious to hear what your mechanic says.

Good Luck!!

-- Kevin

I'll echo what trkcmpr mentions when it comes to negotiating price. You have the benefit of having gone through this a few times before this possible purchase. You should maintain your "walk-away" power when it comes to negotiating the price of this van. There is the cost of any needed repairs in factoring into the buying price of the van.

Yes, this van looks very promising even though if it was his second vehicle. So it's been driven less than 2K miles as well. There's a reason why he didn't drive it more than that too. Looks can be deceiving so go by the advice your friend tells you about what this van needs to be ready for the road.

Do start low & work your way up. Start with calculating the cost of parts, labor, etc. from the price of the van. I'm not saying "low-ball" the guy as the guy may get insulted. If he is, explain the cost to get the van "up to par" to be roadworthy & safe. This shows that you're just trying to give him a fair price for the van.

As I mentioned before, the fact that the van was driven less than 2K a year IS an issue. Sitting that long would make me wonder why it was driven so little. Do keep your "walk-away" power as well. If your friend starts finding little the van needs keep your enthusiasm in check. Keep the seller thinking that you may NOT be buying the van. The lower you pay, the better off you'll be!

Good luck on the van!

Thanks Kevin very good ideas. I like the wayyyyy low part the best. I was even going to start at 1000 bucks and see what he says. Tomorrow ......

I am copying this from my FB page as I am too lazy to write it ALL over again.
So I saw the van. Its in great shape mechanically. It needs a few things done like new brake pads, tune up maybe a radiator flush. Its bad inside..carpet needs to go pronto!! LOL Its a mans mans van and you know what I mean. No offense to you really clean guys!!! But to me that the fun part Ok I am calling him tomorrow as I needed time to think about it...I love it! He is Muslim no real reason to tell you that other than I can call him tomorrow because they don't celebrate Thanksgiving.

Hope you get it, She.

Good luck!

Bob

Thanks Tony/Karen. I am actually looking forward in getting good and dirty with this thing. Thanks Bob. You know I wasn't sure why I didn't look forward in actually getting a van. I guess I just needed one that said "hello" to me LOL
