Hey everybody!
This is how tech savvy I am.  I was unable to start a new thread with my question, so I am replying to another post that seemed similar in content. (Maybe someone will tell me the correct way to post a question in the forum.

Also new to this, I am shopping for a cargo van.  I found one that was an FBI surveillance van in the early 90s.  It is equipped with 2000 Watt system with converter, inverter, 110 plugs, batteries, etc. which  powered the computers and other equipment so the FBI could spy on people.  It is evidently charged by the engine.  Being a novice at electrical systems, am I risking issues with the old FBI electrical system by buying it without being an expert?

What think ye?   Thank you!

Welcome to the CRVL forums Steven! I moved your post into the Newcomers Corner so that more people would see it.

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips, Tricks and Rules" post lists some helpful information to get you started.

Most of our rules boil down to two simple over-riding principles: 1) What you post should provide good information (like your introductory post), and 2) Any response to someone else's post should make them feel glad they are part of this forum community.

We look forward to hearing more from you.

There was a similar van for sale back when I was shopping. It was from some local law enforcement agency. It was a white E-150 passenger van and the interior was done up in light blue carpeting. The window curtains had holes for cameras, telescopes or whatever. I passed on it because first I'd have to tear out the desk and all that awful carpeting (which probably smelled of cigarettes, stale food, and body odor).

Hope it doesn't have any 'bugs'! Tee hee.

Does the engine charge a battery bank setup? How many miles? How many bullet holes? Is there rust?

Gov surplus used to be a good deal, but get the mechanical inspection for sure.

Many gov't auctions won't let you test drive a vehicle and are sold as-is.

Also, if a van like this has low mileage it doesn't tell the true story on engine wear.

It probably sat idling for hours and hours. Maybe even 24/7 for who knows how long.

How are you coming with the van search? I found my van used at a dealer handling fleet sales. I think they were advertizing on one of the vehicle reselling sites, maybe cargurus, currently has 9000 vans for sale.
