I am an AMC lover from way back (owned a few Javelins and a two-seat AMX), but I never could warm to the bloated little Pacer. I do wish they'd carried on with the original rotary engine concept it was supposed to have.
In my USAF training days in Chanute AFB/Rantoul, Illinois (1976), a pizza joint offbase used Pacers for pizza delivery. They were painted tomato orange with green fiberglass stems on top, looking like big tomatoes running around town and base. Cute.
There was a Pacer stationwagon, though they are very rare now.
AMC had many interesting "dream cars", including that funky Pacer-based micro-van.

Ever look at an old Willys CJ? Where was the drivers seat mounted?
Ever look behind the seat of an old pickup truck?
On your lap in a VW Beetle?
Behind the rear license plate on any GM midsize car in the 60's and 70's?

Far worse inceneration potential.

Just one of many over-hyped "problems" tacked onto certain vehicles. Little logic in it, but some jump on it and blow it out of proportion.

Haha... The Ford pinto had such high hopes. Its a great engine. Great chassis, just poorly executed... Hence Le Boom...  Remember the K-car? Same thing.. Great engine.. Good chassis, poorly executed. The Vega? Yeah that was garbage. The AMC Rambler/Gremlin/Hornet/Pacer were great cars way ahead of their times in many many ways. Or whats that Car? AMC Concord... AWD before everyone wanted it.

I still remember my dad buying a Ford Edsel and my mom nearly divorcing him because it embarrassed her so bad to drive it.

But if I ever find one for sale ANYWHERE in the western states.. I want to buy one of these (Only because its so ugly I cant help but love it):

Other people dream of Ferarri, Masarati, Lamborghini, SuperBirds, Camaros.. I dream of air cooled rear engine V8 TATRAS... haha.

That Eagle was my first car...I remember that I was so into it being 4wd and sitting up high and some bling, I honestly never realized I bought a station wagon until a buddy said "umm, nice station wagon dude..."
