Wow, Alt-E has a **great** rep, lucky you to be local to them!

That is great to hear! Their name is pretty much unsearchable because it is so short and hyphenated so I can't find much in the way of references here or elsewhere.

What remains to be seen is how much this is all going to cost. :)

Search is a matter of using the right words. IOW, keep adding additional words to narrow down the search. I tried "alt-e batteries" in google search and it came right up with 9 links.

When I designed my system a year and a half ago  I had my heart set on using lithium batteries but ended up going with AGM after I did the cost analysis.
Flooded lead acid whips AGM in cost analysis, about 1/2 the cost in both short and long terms.  There are legit reasons to go AGM but IMO very, very few buy them for those reasons. More of a "I saw it on youtube" thing.   Not talking about anyone in the thread, btw.
IF someone knows what they are doing and avoids killing them early, LiFePO4 might beat both in addition to the other benefits.
I recently replaced my deeply abused (bought used) 6v FLA bank.  Surprised they lasted this long.  I am FT now, but I can't snowbird yet as I am still working.  This means I am tied to one (awesome) area which has temperature extremes.  So I replaced it with another 2x 6v FLA bank which I expect to last me until I retire and can snowbird.  At that point I will go LFP (or whatever the best option is at that time).

Unfortunately, Google does not see certain punctuation marks when you search. Further, the + and - operands not longer function as they once did. Boolean search logic ain't what it used to be.

It's OK. I don't need help understanding how to do a google search, but I appreciate the thought.

- still works. .+ was a casualty of google+. They started using it the way twitter uses @.

The minus/dash still works, both as an exclusion operator, and to mean "with space, or without, or with a dash"

So van-dweller as a search term, matches

vandweller
van dweller or
van-dweller

And I do hope all saw the site: operator as in the example I posted above.

Never need to suffer sub-par site-specific forum search software again.

I have been planning my electrical system (as some of you may have seen in other posts.) I was set on a small AGM setup with some solar and a connection to both starter batter and shore power with a generator to do the AC and wheelchair charging related heavy lifting.

My family has been helping me to get things going and I have been told that, if it really is better, that I would be given the money for a LiFePo4 battery. This of course blows all the research I've done and brings chaos to my planning. :)

So, should I go with lithium or stick with AGM given the choice? If lithium, what changes will I need to make to my setup to make it work and not kill the roughly cube-shaped killobuck I might end up with in my van? Any recommendations for good batteries? I'm hoping for either a 200 or 300ah battery as it may be the only battery I end up using in the build and I have no clue when I'll be able to afford another.

Thoughts?

Why not try the LiFePO4? Just like your family said, maybe they did the right choice for you.
