Hi all. The new travel trailer, 18 footer, only has room for one AGM Battery on the frame because they are bigger than the deep cycle batteries.

I'd like to get two AGM Batteries. The Dealer is currently trying to figure out how to accomodate that. Can I keep one on the frame and then one as a spare in the extended cab? How can I make this work? I am also getting a 130 watt solar panel installed.

Thanks for any info you can pass along. I don't pick up the Trailer until after the 23rd so there is time to find out the best way to go about this, if any! "Thanks so much."

Never mind, I just found out that you can turn AGM batteries on their side! I had no idea. Anyway, here is a battery chart for anyone that is interested.
http://www.sunxtender.com/xtender_main.php

Corinne.

Which ones are you getting?

I just called Robert, or Rubin, at Wind and Sun in Flagstaff.

store.solar-electric.com
(928) 526-8017

He recommended 2 Concord, AGM, Sun Extenders. For 1000watts or 200amp hours. Which will be approximately what I'll use. $626.00 for two.

My trailer is 16ft and the tongue doesn't have that much room on it either, but the way around it is to add an aluminum tongue box that holds both batteries. Mine can handle the extra weight, but you'll want to verify that with yours. Most of these boxes can lock so you won't have to worry about them walking off while you're away.

Thanks so much for that information. They're still trying to figure out how they're going to bolt them, or secure them, to the frame. Great people over at the dealer. That aluminum box is a great idea! Especially with a lock on it, and then just bolt the aluminum container to the frame.

The trailer is new and an 18 footer, on sale ta boot! Gross weight is still a tad under 4,000 pounds. So, that's what my goal was, less weight. I have until the end of the month before my escrow closes, I hope they have it figured out by then! I've sent them as much info as I could. Maybe they can use this aluminum tool box idea, I'll pass it along. "Thanks so much."

Happy Trails!

Hi Seraphem. I got a Skyline Nomad 2012. It suits my needs perfectly. 18 footer. I've been to 4 RV dealers and did a lot of research on line as well. This was the most ultra light I've found. Even their 13 footer was cute! But I need a bit more than just cute. Gross weight is under 4000 pounds. I really like it.

Have a great day!

Very nice Corinne! I almost purchased a Milan (same size/weight) but changed my mind because of the price. Instead I got the KZ Sportsman 16BH because, even though it was slightly smaller, weighs in at 2100 pds to start with.

This one was on sale for 13K! All the dealers in Arizona have dropped their prices, even the car and Truck dealers. It definitely is a buyer's market right now, all the way around.

I was originally going to get the North Trail by Heartland but it was 21 feet long and gross weight would have been almost 8000 pounds. Then I found the Ultra Light Trailers elsewhere and changed my mind and got the smaller one. Your trailer sounds great too, the lighter the better!

Have a great day...

Hi Corrine, those AGM batteries can go anywhere, even under your bed. In fact inside is better becuase they will stay at a better temperature. Running a wire to the converter shouldn't cost much so I suggest finding a place for them in the trailer. or inside one of the storage bays under the trailer. AGMs allow you to be creative in where you put them. Bob

That's a good idea Bob. When I go to have the Solar work done we're going to discuss that. I'm sure it will work out well. Yeah, I had no idea you could turn those batteries up on their side. Pretty awesome! "Technology!"

Thanks again!

That's real good to know. Thanks Bob! You just saved me a ton of work.

I just spoke with a gentleman who recommended these batteries and said they only require a water check every month or so. He highly recommends them as an electrical engineer who lives totally on Solar Power in his fifth wheel. Here is the article. They run around $120.00 each and he says they last longer than the other AGM batteries!

The Trojan T-105 6-volt deep cycle battery is perfect for electric golf carts and electric utility vehicles.

More than 98% of America's top golf courses use Trojan batteries in their golf cart fleets. Why? Because Trojan invented the golf car battery back in 1952 and has been making superior products ever since. Check under the seat of an electric golf cart and you're likely to see Trojan deep cycle batteries.

Built to deliver superior performance, durability and reliability, these batteries are Trojan's flagship line and can meet the challenges of the toughest, hilliest terrains.

Trojan's proprietary Maxguard® Advanced Design Separator and exclusive Alpha Plus® paste formulation team up to increase battery life, extend run time, and decrease maintenance.

Durability, reliability, and proven technology mean you can depend on Trojan batteries for consistent performance day in and day out.

Outstanding technical support is available on the phone or on the web.

Pricing listed above requires core exchange prior to delivery. Extra fees apply, if you are not exchanging a used battery prior to delivery. You will need to exchange your core on site at our facility in order to receive core exchange credit (because packaging and shipping used battery cores can be complicated).

Just a "by the way." I've noticed you really have to be careful of what you write when emailing people or posting. "Anywhere." Not targeting anyone here. I'm speaking in general. Some people will take what you've written completely out of context than what you intended it to mean. So, it's just nice be aware of this. No offense intended to anyone here meant. I'm just speaking in general.

For example: My cousin and I email each other a lot. We were discussing a certain subject and I said "when you do that, this happens, etc...." She thought I was talking about her because I said "you." I meant in general! So from now on, I say "generally speaking." lol... THAT's what I mean by being careful how sentences are phrased! You (not anyone here, but just in 'general') can really hurt someone's feelings by phrasing something the wrong way. Sorry Pat!!!

Okay, have a nice day everyone. I'm still very confused about what to get Solar wise, there are so many opinions out there, and of course, everyone is right! I suppose it's just a matter of preference and personal needs really. I just hope for the best when the time comes to get my solar panel. I'm sure it will all work out.

I've decided to go with a company in Scottsdale. They gave me the most informative and thorough information on a 140 watt solar panel kit that made perfect sense to me and even suggested the same thing Bob suggested, about placing the batteries in the storage compartment if necessary. "No problem." That's what I like to hear "no problem." lol...

Thanks for all the input and help. I really appreciate it from everyone here.

Have a nice day all.

P.S. I purchased a Razor VSIO 19" flat screen for the new Trailer, from Walmart. When they say 'razor thin' they're not kidding! Really light too. Nice.
