Hi all I'am excited to be here and I was just wondering after you turn your lights out for the night. Do you answer the door if someone Knocks?? I had an interesting story I was in Las Vegas visiting and was parked on the street.I knew I was legally parked at 4 AM a police officer knocked on my door. I did not answer it and he went away. At 8 am he came back and knocked again I said through the door may I help you ? He said would you open the door, I said would you please put your face and badge up to the window?  He did it then I opened the door and introduced myself. I said is there something wrong? He said no he was just checking. He did not ask if I was here earlier and I didn't say anything either. I said I am an older women and traveling solo so I am careful about opening the door. Then came the most important question what is this and what year????? Oh he said, I just smiled and he said ok bye and left. Unless I know who it is I do not open my door after dark.

I'm never parked on streets, so I have not given this much thought. It seems to me you handled it correctly. If he had really wanted to notify you of something important during the night, he would have knocked more and/or called out to you I think. And if he was insistent.. you could ask him to shine his flashlight on his credentials and face. I am sure LEOs respect that you want to be sure of the person you are talking with.

My setup is so stealthy, no one suspects me of sleeping inside even after trying to shine a flashlight through my tinted windows. I am more likely to scare the crap out of a cop or burglar than they are to scare me.

From my experience in Walmart dwelling, knocking on someone else's camper after dark is an egregious breach of personal space, only acceptable in an emergency, just like knocking on someone's bedroom window after dark.

If I am stealth camped, I will be apologetic to who I assume are the property owners. If I have a right to be where I am, I will be more aggressive when disturbed.

...Or someone knocking on your RV when you are camped in the space next to the Camp Host, and the Host site is empty... :dodgy:

Have had several times (Night and day) when I am trying to sleep and people come up and bother me.

More than once I have said (Politely twice) "I am trying to sleep, please leave me alone"

After that, I pull out the pepper spray and ask if they'd like to try some....

"Have had several times (Night and day) when I am trying to sleep and people come up and bother me". how do you mean bother you. if they are just talking loud waking you up and they are on a public right of way, you just can't pepper spray them. highdesertranger

(sigh) Knocking on my windows/doors...otherwise I'd not have to speak with them would I?

I used to hate it when my blonde girlfriend would wake me up banging on my door in the middle of the night. Finally just gave up,got up and let her out.

You are a funny man.  Whether that's funny=peculiar or funny=ha-ha, I'm not quite sure . . .
