LowTech, we have that coleman grill and it is just right for us. Love the combo burner and grill. Jan

Boondockers who generally stay in areas with plenty of biofuel available might want to look at BioLite Campstove Bundle.  Its upfront costs are offset over the long run by the availability of free fuel.  It's my primary camping cooking system, and it works great.

We have a stainless steal IR grill that was sold by Brookstone given to us. The up side is it heats up incredibly fast. The downside is it's a pain to keep clean. We just don't use it often.

I was going to make a parabolic solar cooker from our old satellite dish but when I was watching you tubes on them, it was apparent that they were not big enough to heat more than a small pan. Luckily I found out the small burner on the electric cook top will run straight off the solar system. It's a different kind of solar cooking.

We use our solar ovens a lot and have never gotten sick. Then again we check everything cooked with a thermometer too. They say you can't burn stuff in the ovens but you sure can over cook it. Leave a rack of ribs or a chicken in one for too long and you end up with meat paste.

I use Cheap Wal-Mart LP grills. I have had one stolen off the back of my Class C  while parked for 30 minutes in the Clayton GA Wal-Mart (it was bungie corded to the hitchhaul). It was similar to this one and the size David & I normally bought http://www.walmart.com/ip/Backyard-Grill-Gas-Grill-Red/31897784

My current one is smaller and cheaper. I haven't even put it together yet.  http://www.walmart.com/ip/Backyard-Grill-Gas-Grill/31897760 I run the grills off of a 20 lb tank. Those 1 lb tanks are too pricey.

Usually we would burn one up in a year. But living in NM and not being able to grill due to high winds made the previous grill last several years.

I remember when the larger grill cost $19!

I got the Grill2Go X200 and have put it to use using the Coleman hose to my 20lber, it makes great burgers and porkchops, chicken on par with any other gas grill, my only attempt at ribs turned out tough but that could have been the boil(my first time boiling instead of baking). Grilled cheese sandwiches come off of this grill excellent without any butter or oil.

The grate definitely gets clogged with BBQ sauce so you have to be more careful. I'm happy with the grill, the igniter doesn't always work the first try, while it's solidly built I'm not sure it's great value(paid $109 shipped).

I've been happy with this little Coleman job. It's small, so veggies like to roll off if you're not careful, but it fits right under the passenger seat...

TMG51 - do you have a link to one of those or a model #.

I have a grill that takes up way too much room, is too big for cooking for one and rattles like #$%^ going down the highway. I can silence the rattles but would really like a little grill!

Right here.

This grill does come with a latch that locks the lid and grate down to the unit, but I find the latch to be kinda hokey and I don't bother with it. Also the grate is nonstick so you can't wire brush it.

But it's the right size for 1-2 people and taking up no space in the van.
