 Does anyone know how many people attended last year or approximately how many people are expected in 2019.   I don’t do well in crowds.

there are only estimates, but around 4k seems about right. some areas were very crowded but in the outlying areas you could be all by yourself. it all depends what you want. highdesertranger

A Canadian (and any other visitor for that matter) is allowed to be a visitor in the US for up to 6 months. As a Canadian I do not have to apply for a written visitors visa that people from other countries would have to get.

That said, the tax rules are a different matter altogether. The US taxes income on a world-wide basis so people who spend more than 120 days or the aggregate of current year/past 2 years of 183 days are subject to US tax regulations.

BUT, anyone who keeps what's called 'closer connection to country of origin' AND files the correct form is exempt from the taxation.

Every April 15th I simply file a 2 page form with the US government, answering questions such as 'where do I bank', where do I keep a residence', etc.  By filing this form, I am in compliance with US tax regulations and as such do not have to file a US tax return.

In any case, Canadians pay more tax than the US would collect on the same income so I would be in a negative tax situation anyways.

It's simple, all one has to do is follow the rules.

If there's any Canadians who have trouble understanding the US tax rules or the forms required, I'm happy to help.

If you are retired and collecting Canadas' Old Age Security income, it is also important to follow the residency rules in Canada to make sure that you remain entitled to the OAS payments. Provincial health insurance regulations also require presence in the province of residency to remain eligible for coverage so it's important to understand all the regulations that pertain to length of stay outside the province/country.
Ok i'm an Ontario resident, I will be keeping my apt while i'm in the states, how many days exactly can I stay and not be subject to loosing my OHIP. I'm not old enough for my OAP yet but in 2yrs I will be collecting the Old aga pention survivors which you can only collect if your spouse has died and you are under a yearly cap.

I've not been to Bouse, but looks to me like it's nicer than Quartzsite. It's also 25 miles from Parker, whereas RTR Quartzsite is about 40 miles from Parker. And Parker is a real town (pop 3000), nicely situated on the Colorado River, and complete with parks, Walmart and other real grocery stores, eg Safeway, plus actual restaurants. The other big attraction is, from Parker it's an easy drive up to Lake Havasu City, which is a nice small city (pop 52,000).

HDR, supposedly Bob is planning for there to be several "wandering convoys" of CheapRVers, starting in the fall. Do you know where there is info on this? I cannot find it.
I have past history with bouse...the name is french for cowpie...My dad had a winter place there and I went there and stayed for a while...neat place..in former times there was a thriving cattle grazing operation there...thankfully.. not so much anymore..from Parker one can take a water taxi to the casino across the river...good food..hope to see everyone at the RTR...woodsmn

Ontario requires 6 months residency each year to stay in compliance with OHIP enrollment regulations.

Out of country insurance won't cover you for any more than that anyways and you can stay up to 183 days per year in the US.

I always cut it close to the 183 but made sure that I could account for 6 months residency in Ontario just in case I ever needed to prove time lines.

OAS in any form requires 6 months of the year residency in Canada to remain eligible.

You will need to start filing the 'closer connection forms' with the US government in April of the year following you starting to spend winters in the US.

Since you are under 62/65 be prepared to prove to the US border entry personnel that you have a means of supporting yourself while you are in the US. They are very much concerned that you will be trying to find employment in the US for the winter. Have proof of income or savings sufficient to pay your bills while you are in the US.

There were a lot of people last year but the desert is huge and one could have all the elbow room you want and still take part in the RTR.

I'm going to try to make it there again (as a day trip)
Because there are several of you I would enjoy meeting in person
(And I still owe you a beer HDR!)

With 4,000 people at RTR in 2018, and probably many more this coming year, there will probably be guitars and banjos all over the place. From the sounds of it, everyone on this forum is coming, LOL.

I have no idea exactly where the Womens RTR will be held, but have been scouting the entire area around Quartzsite via google maps for boondocking places outside of Scaddan Wash. freecampsites.net shows this place near Bouse which looks extremely atttractive: 33.858413, -114.03947

That area, 3 quarters up Plomosa Road between Quartzsite and Bouse looks like it may not support a cell signal...

Thanks for posting/commenting this post. I’m coming down from South-Central Alaska in my Skoolie Forever Home. 5000+ miles is a long way to travel just to wander around looking for a show that’s 15 miles away from its previous locale. ?
Hope to meet some of you there!

The Womens-RTR will be somewhere near Bouse and be the week before the regular RTR which will be in Quartzsite as usual. A lot of women will likely go to both events.

BTW, have you looked into taking the intercoastal ferry rather than driving?

I'm perfectly happy with no cell signal myself, so that place looks fine to me, but is probably not where the Womans-RTR will be.

Bouse Az has a lot of nice flat blm areas to camp. I think that would be a big difference having a good location there. Easier access from paved road. Lots of area to handle more people.
I have been through the area. I think it would be a great spot. Parker is about 25 miles north, with Walmart and other shopping.

Plus there is some great mountain sceanry around there.

Good deal.

tentative dates for RTR is January 9-20.  this is not official until Bob makes an official announcement.  highdesertranger

Does one need to register to reserve a spot?

there are no reservations, there is plenty of room, no need to worry about not getting a spot. once you get there you need a permit, the permits are free and you get them from the camp host on the road on the way in. as it gets closer more info will become available. highdesertranger

Yes, I have. However, besides my Skoolie I also have a 22' car trailer. The cost for a ferry ride down for both is higher than driving. Plus, I have a few stops/friends to see along the East Access Route of the AlCan, (in Edmonton). The long drive doesn't bother me, as I used to drive OTR trucking. Thank you for the suggestion, though.
