I just got home from the New England International Auto Show (press preview FTW) and made it a point to crawl all over and inside the latest Chevy Express. No real changes, though I wonder how long it will be until GM follows Ford and Ram's lead in offering a more European approach to vans.

Nope, nothing new here, except that Chevy's done away with the sealed beams like GMC did a while ago. Even that's probably not new.

On display was a standard length van, not extended. Still, I learned some very interesting things. I'd never looked at a full-size van with the intention of living in one before, only whether my deliveries would fit.  :)

Nothing earth-shattering here, either. I'd see about replacing the stereo with an Android unit like the one I put in my WRX. The storage bins are nice, too. I could put a ham radio control unit or two in those.

One thing I learned is that at 6 feet tall I can just manage to lie down across the van from one side to the other. I thought I was going to have to sleep fore-aft, but this piece of knowledge lets me be more flexible in a build. I also found it interesting that the rubber mat now partially overlaps the wheel wells, but most of us ditch that for our own insulation and flooring anyway.

Anything else you want to know? I've left the show but feel free to ask anything I haven't covered here.

Just remember that the walls aren’t vertical and if your bed isn’t on the floor you are going to lose width the higher you make it. May be enough to make it uncomfortable to sleep sideways.

The aero style composite headlamps are available with the upgraded appearance package on either GMC or Chevy, and have been for years.

And did they have the new diesel on display?

I have recently bought a 2017 and looks exactly like the 2018. Wonder if there is any difference at all. My maat didn't cover the wheel wells. And yes, it is out now and insulation is in.

Yeah, Ive been wondering that too.  It would be nice to see them come out with a factory high-top model.

I had hoped it might happen this year....  Guess not..

I think they do have one similiar to the transit coming out this year. It may be a passenger van.

Here's a pic

I always thought the composite headlights were standard on LS and LTs, but an option on the cargo model.

I'm not impressed by the "European styling" of the other brands. After all, they're just foreign made, rebadged vehicles. Why change a good thing?

Yes.  I have a 2015 2500 and if you are over 6' tall and want sufficient insulation, you'll need to go length wise to sleep comfortably.

Nope, just a van and a pickup truck in the commercial area. No engines.

Ford's Transit vans are built in Kansas City, MO
Foreign to some, but still in the US

The Transit, yes. But the Transit Connect no. The Chevy City Express is a rebadged Nissan. The Dodge Sprinter is Mercedes Benz

Unfortunately, from what I've been reading, that high-top model won't be coming out any time soon.  :(

Nope but by the time I'm ready to buy a van it might be actually.
