I just got home from the New England International Auto Show (press preview FTW) and made it a point to crawl all over and inside the latest Chevy Express. No real changes, though I wonder how long it will be until GM follows Ford and Ram's lead in offering a more European approach to vans.
Nope, nothing new here, except that Chevy's done away with the sealed beams like GMC did a while ago. Even that's probably not new.
On display was a standard length van, not extended. Still, I learned some very interesting things. I'd never looked at a full-size van with the intention of living in one before, only whether my deliveries would fit.
Nothing earth-shattering here, either. I'd see about replacing the stereo with an Android unit like the one I put in my WRX. The storage bins are nice, too. I could put a ham radio control unit or two in those.
One thing I learned is that at 6 feet tall I can just manage to lie down across the van from one side to the other. I thought I was going to have to sleep fore-aft, but this piece of knowledge lets me be more flexible in a build. I also found it interesting that the rubber mat now partially overlaps the wheel wells, but most of us ditch that for our own insulation and flooring anyway.
Anything else you want to know? I've left the show but feel free to ask anything I haven't covered here.
