Well, I did it.. tore out the WAECO CR-50 fridge I had in my camper, and it's back to my WAECO CF-50 chest style cooler. Dunno, suppose I'm just too used to freezing everything solid and like my beer to be less than 5 deg/C. Gonna do something different this time tho. My sister picked up a coupla styrofoam coolers (which they throw away) from work for me. They use these for transporting medical samples 'n stuff, and they're nice thick skookum units.
Willy's wily plan is to freeze those gel-paks in my freezer, then throw them into the cooler to keep other stuff merely 'cool'. I gave one to my buddy in the Okanagan, and he claims that his ice lasts 2-3 times longer than with the store bought coolers.. and it's the best price of all: FREE!!!

As you can see, it's already correctly labeled for beer storage!

See how thick it is?

And there ya go! All ready for some hard core camping. ..Willy.

I've got a similar one that frozen meat came in, it holds ice a lot longer than a cooler, and is a lot stronger. My lid gets stuck on mine so tight sometimes I'm afraid I'll break it. Vacuum I guess.

often used for transplant transportation, a high end restaurant I worked near throws them out regularly ever has fishy tasting beer? They are cheap and effective.

My baddy was actually SITTING on his, and it held. Cant say the same for the Coleman plastic one he picked up, like, a week before I showed up with the one I gave him. He now does laundry in the other one. ..Willy.

FYI, Omaha Steaks ships their food products in this kind of cooler with dry ice. Once in a while, when they have had really good deals, I have ordered from them, and always save the containers.

Many uses, and great insulated box.

Bob

These would make a great base for a 'super cooler'; could probably fit it into a regular Coleman cooler, or a Rubbermaid container, and blow in some foam. Probably work better than those Xtreme & Yeti style coolers. With me, it doesn't matter.. cuz I can make ice for it in my WAECO. Yup, I've got the gel-paks, but melting ice has one advantage, and that's the heat transfer via melt-water. If I wanna get that lukewarm liquor store beer cold in a big hurry, then need that bit of water. ..Willy.

There ya go Willy. Way back when, when there was a get-together, we would always have an old wash tub and fill it up with ice and water to get the beer cold.

I kinda hate to bring this up, but back in the day I had a buddy who worked in a funeral home. Many of the caskets come in very thick, very good sealing Styrofoam containers. Some of the smaller containers found their way onto our boats. With the proliferation of pet cemeteries, maybe one small enough for our use may be available?

Bama

Too bad I don't have a converted hearse! Get a 'double-wide'.. one casket for me, and the other for my beer. ..Willy.
