Wondering if anyone knows the exact socket size needed to remove the lug nuts.  1" is too small and 1 1/16 seems a bit loose...I want to go pick up one of the right size. anyone?  Thanks  :shy:

Is the 1-1/16" old and maybe rounded some?

Or a cheapo?

No luck finding a 26mm deep socket anywhere... anyone else know exactly what size socket its supposed to be?

Do you mean locally or online?

I've bought misc. sockets at Autozone,Oreillys,Advance, etc. Pawn shops, too.

Do you not have a tape or ruler that you can measure them with?

RV.net has sub-forums for most brands of motorhomes. Search there.

Or ask here:

I'd try taking your rig to a tire shop and asking them what they'd use on your lug nuts.

Just tell them you need some advice because you want to be prepared if you should happen to get a flat tire, and offer to pay them for their input. If they're not busy, you might get the info you need.

go to any hardware store and purchase a digital caliper. You can then place it across the flats of the nut and see what it reads for the measurement. They will typically read in Metric or decimal inches but some also have a choice for reading in fractions.

Or you can go to a website such as this one and enter the data for your vehicle and get a result for the size of lug nut.

Once you know the size of the lug nut just go to an auto parts store to purchase the correct socket size. You can even ask if a clerk will go out to your van with you to verify it is indeed the correct size before you make the purchase.

Or do as some have suggested go to a tire store or even a repair shop and ask for help in determining the size.

Oh while you are doing the investigation for the lug nut if you don't already know it find out what the torque setting is for your lug nuts. Write that and the lug nut size in the documentation you keep in your glove box for your vehicle.

Thanks for all the suggestions. The 1 1/16 would work I suppose, even if a bit loose. Never thought of pawn shops, nice

Get a 6 point socket. All lug wrenches are 6 point. Your 12 point may round off the points if the nuts are way tight.

Most have bins full of loose ones. May have to dig a while.

I'm happy to pay a $1 for a replacement after losing one from a set.

Also, an impact version is best.

An impact version is not needed if you buy a name brand socket. I have used an air impact wrench with my craftsman sockets without a failure.
A cheap, no name one on the other hand...

Edit to add: My lugnuts are torqed to 135 Ft pounds. I carry a long breaker bar for use with my socket.

I'll definitely try to find a 6 point in 1 1/16 and 26mm.. thanks
