On the road for summer
We noticed a tiny Smart Car with interior window coverings a few nights at Wally's. Saw the guy folding bedding this morning and couldn't resist going over for a chat.
This fellow had quite a system worked out after doing this for a couple months. The passenger seat folds forward, flat and he sleeps on that side. His few possessions stow behind the driver seat. He's a very active 69 and maybe 5'9"...hope he comes here to tell his story.

Now THAT is commitment to the life.

If you guys see him again and he has internet, you might direct him to look at another blog, too. You may remember Jacyln who did a guest post on Bob's blog about her tiny teardrop that she pulls with her Harley motorcycle.

If she can pull that with her Harley, shouldn't a SmartCar be able to pull it, too? It would probably more than double his space and give him a much more comfy bed.

Jacyln's blog with details is at:

I remember her, met in Cottonwood.
Will mention that to him but not sure if that little car has the power a big Harley has.
I told him about the site so maybe we will see him here.

And here I was worrying about not having enough room to sleep and eat inside my Ford Escape when I travel...my my.....I have a mansion compared to that vehicle.
I guess it just goes to prove that some people can do big things with a small space. I wonder......what kinda shower he has in it?

I suspect an exterior shower.. perhaps called "raining?" I guess he could strap a solar shower bag to the outside somewhere. More seriously, I bet he uses a gym membership. He'd need that to get the kinks out after sleeping in that car.

I don't know how long that car is on the inside from the front dash to the rear. and maybe there is a fold down seat in the back so he could stretch out lengthwise after removing the front seat or folding it flat.....if it does that. I know that Ghost Dancer converted a Ford Festiva to live in and did a heck of a lot of things inside it to make it comfortable. I don't think that a Festiva is much bigger that the Smart. Here is a link to his build. http://www.cheaprvliving.com/live-ford-festiva/
I have to give these people credit for being very inventive and resourceful.
It is an inspiration to me. And gives me incentive to do some more things to make something work for myself. Instead of me whining and complaining about what I don't have. Yes...I am hard on myself at times. With a person like me I sometimes have to be. Am I talking in the third person???

Joe (Smatcar) does the gym thing, marinas, and such for showers. Always see him in slacks, nice shirt, and shined shoes.
I was amazed that he had room to sleep on the rider side with the seat flat and head into small cargo area. ( he ain't real tall).
He used black (art) foamboard for window covers.

Pretty cool guy...enjoyed visiting with him.

I hope that he does a guest post of his Smart setup on here.

Now I feel bad about thinking I needed more room with my shorty van!   :s
