Oh No! Insurance and a Van Conversion

Stoked to find a filthy old RVIA badge hiding in a corner under the hood, along with a sticker for a defunct dealership in Clearwater Florida. (I think I'm stoked. Maybe that just complicates matters, but at least I have some indication that the conversion was "legitimate" once upon a time.)...

Oh No! Insurance and a Van Conversion

Sorry I can't figure out if there's a forum for this, please move it if necessary!   I'm in AZ.  So when I bought my converted Dodge B350 van in 2016 I tried to insure it as personal transportation.  Progressive said Oh No, it's an RV.  For five years it was insured as an RV with them with no...

Is a high top REALLY that much better?

It also depends on personal comfort zone. I'm in a comparatively nice climate but I still prefer being indoors a significant portion of the time; a couple of hours of shopping or hiking and I'm ready to be back in my private nest. It would be challenging for me to feel at peace if my only...

Is a high top REALLY that much better?

Nope, just your standard mid-90's class B Dodge 350. It doesn't look like you can stand up in it but with the depression in the floor, it works.

Is a high top REALLY that much better?

The van I just purchased has a mid-top (TV top), but they've lowered the floor in a central strip between the wheel wells so there is 6' head room in the central corridor. I found that preferable to a high top, although it doesn't create anywhere near as much storage there's less drag and a...

    Alternative to Showering

Depends on activities, too. If I go on a hike that gets me crusted up with sweaty salt, I'm a little frantic until I can rinse my skin. ALL my skin. I don't think I'd make a very good thru--hiker. When that's not the case I'm ok just using an astringent cleanser on the greasy/smelly bits, a...

Warm Place to Spend the Winter

DH was down in Baja last year on a motorcycle. They're in the process of paving the roads, not all of them are good yet. It's a lovely place to go but I have no idea what the rules are about freedom camping. Prices are ok if you stay out of the tourist areas, but they're not as low as you...

Prediabetic? Overweight? My e-book is FREE tomorrow

Thank you for this. "Tomorrow" is actually today (Sunday), I just got your book for free.

    We have another rat

How about "I think maybe it was squirrel?"  That should at least get you the right size trap.    - from the woman who has to rebrand spiders as "crickets", "ants" or possibly "turtles".

    LED lighting

Thanks, I'll see if I can find that.

    LED lighting

I thought I'd entertain myself with some LED light replacements, and so far the results have been pretty mixed.  The map light is now a bright, cold white, which is ok for its purpose.  The first one I tried was a pleasant color but much too dim. The stove light is now a rather dim cold light...

RV/mobile Internet options ( specifically for people who "work" from the road):

Just weighing in with eyebrows up, does anyone else wonder if all this bandwidth is really that expensive for the providers? T-Mobile is now offering unlimited streaming of movies "for free". I know their regular service is no big bargain, but it's hard to imagine they could eat the cost of...

RV/mobile Internet options ( specifically for people who "work" from the road):

I have a plan with republic wireless where i get unlimited cell service for calls and texts, and wifi only for anything else. It's $12.43 per month. they also offer a plan with data that's pay-for-what-you-use that seemed reasonable, and they let you use the phone as a hotspot, but I don't...

    New Horizon

Oh, I thought Popeye was talking about a metaphorical master plumber.  You're real!   :D  Thank you so much for your offer, I'd love to accept it - and would have been happy to buy you lunch - but unfortunately won't be at the RTR this year, hoping for next.

What is the minimal ventilation level for cooking in a vehicle?

Off topic, my fondest memory of my RV is getting stuck in a nightmare traffic jam on I-40, pulling onto the shoulder, and spending the next hour baking brownies and taking a shower.  The awesome upside of a rolling house!

What is the minimal ventilation level for cooking in a vehicle?

We rented a van in New Zealand, the stove was near a window and we just cracked the window about 2", didn't notice problems with odors or CO alarm. I will say that even making scrambled eggs with the window open a bit noticeably warmed up the van - nicely, it was chilly out, but I could see...

    New Horizon

It doesn't have a shower, can I go inside the house and take one?   :P Seriously, thanks for the advice.  I'll give this a shot in the morning.   Are you at the RTR?  Jealous!
