Whynter 62 QT Ac/DC Fridge Freezer

I have 1 I've had for a few months and so far I'm not too impressed with its cooling abilities on 12 volt. The unit just steadfastly refused to cool even when the voltage was high enough.

Leaving Santa Barbara, frustrated with Silicon Valley "no sleeping in vehicles" rules

Hey folks. I left my camp host gig in Santa Barbara on Wednesday. I headed north with no particular destination. The first day was fun. I felt free on the road again. I bought a new house battery and did some very overdue laundry. My first night I slept alongside Highway 1 in Big Sur. The next...

They told me it couldn't be done

It CAN be done. Most people DON'T do it, because it's hard.

Newer cargo van or older camperized van?

As someone who bought an 89 Ford CamperVan, I'd recommend the newer cargo van. I'm very proud of my RV but it's my first and since I've spent about two years in it, I know better what I want. The CamperVan needed a lot of work, and not all at once. I replaced the radiator, spark plugs, fuel...

    TMG's Van Thread! (Picture-heavy.)

Good tip, but why strip the outer jacket off? Wouldn't it be better to keep the jacket on for protection?

Modifying/replacing the stock stovetop in my RV

Is that flat disc of cast iron? Like this? (http://www.amazon.com/Ilsa-Cast-Iron-Diffuser-Reducer/dp/B0007T25ZC I could go that route, but part of me feels like that wasting propane.  Thanks for the tip on the Piezo igniters though.

Modifying/replacing the stock stovetop in my RV

The Stovetop in my RV is working fine, but I'd like to modify it or replace it completely. Currently it's on or off, no flame adjustment. Is it possible to modify this so I can simmer? Also, I need to light it with a match or lighter every time. Is there any aftermarket solution/upgrade so it...

E-350 ClassB Van-RV can barely make it up hills, get's hot

Opps, I meant to say that it's a different set of fan blades to replace to put on the fan clutch. I did install a "Heavy Duty" ignition coil. I can't remember why now. It was an MSD I remember. I'm shopping for Taylor Spark Plug Wires now. There are three that match my vehicle.

E-350 ClassB Van-RV can barely make it up hills, get's hot

I'm not ready to give up on the AC system. I might repair it at some point in the future.  I have no paperwork on this engine so...I'll proceed with other solutions. The engine oil cooler seems like a possibility. So does a flex-a-lite fan. The oil cooler is a more expensive and more involved...

E-350 ClassB Van-RV can barely make it up hills, get's hot

I'll just answer some questions real quick...Thanks for the help guys. It doesn't have Overdrive. Did you put the largest radiator that is available in? I can't be sure, but it was at least as big as the original. How's your fan clutch? I have no idea. I'll check. Does it have cab AC...

The Cube, U-Haul to RV camper conversion

Any chance you kept mpg records before the conversion? I'd like to see how much the increased weight affects your mpg.

E-350 ClassB Van-RV can barely make it up hills, get's hot

So I've had my RV for two years. Only recently have I been taking her over big hills/mountains. On hills longer than a few feet I lose speed, even at full throttle. On especially long or steep hills I struggle to beat 35mph. Also, the engine temp climbs up to 245 (F). She's a little better when...

Even If I had the Money, I'd prefer a Van over an Expensive RV

I've had the same problem. I bought a 89 Class B RV and I've done a lot of work on it. That being said, every device as complex and complicated as an RV is going to have bugs after production. It's something consumers should expect buying brand new hardware. Moving into a new apartment building...

Temp work in the Medical Marijuana industry or hippie communes

Anyone every done anything like that? How does one find out about such opportunities?  Regarding working in medical marijuana, I'm thinking of working on a farm, trimming or even an extraction/edibles facility. How do you know if it's legit and legal? Re: hippie communes, I was thinking of...

Six months in Santa Barbara as a WorkCamper

James and Skippy's RV adventures–Reflections on Six Months as a WorkCamper WorkCamping So for the last six months (more or less) I've been enjoying the benefits of being a WorkCamper. I get to live in a city park with full-hookups (electricity, water, sewer, Cable TV and fast wireless...

Self Help Gear for Getting Unstuck

I got stuck in the sand out by Salvation Mountain in California. I tried stuffing stuff under the tires, I tried rocking back and forth. Nothing worked. I had to call AAA. I know it's cheating, but I was lucky to be 20 minutes from town. Telling them where I was was bit of a challenge, but I...

    Leaving religion behind...

I was raised Roman Catholic. We went to church every Sunday until I was about 14-16. I never really felt like I believed, but I do remember praying for Jesus's help to stop masturbating...at age 13. Thinking about it now, that seems f'ed up! I think my shame about my sexual desires comes from...
