Off road aids, ramps, ladders, bridges.

This longer wheelbase one wheel drive chevy on 29" tires has me thinking after already having to move rocks to get into a camp. Sand ladders, traction boards, telescoping bridges, large flat objects you drive on, they are pretty standard equipment on RTW type overland rigs but the one's that are...

2 100w panels in series on PWM = no better than 100w?

Okay, solar basics 101 type stuff here; I got my hands on a nice older Renogy PWM controller. So I switched my two 100w(Renogy 100w Mono) panels from parallel to series and swapped my 30a generic controller for the 10a Renogy and it seems it will only put 5.2a into the batteries, making my...

I quit vandwelling, or living in any vehicle. Why?

Well I have lived the CRVL way for a while. But over the past few months it came to me it doesn't make sense for me to live in a vehicle. I am able bodied enough I do not NEED a van, truck or even car to live how I want. And that being reliant on such a machine limits me greatly getting to truly...

    Going without 110VAC(inverter/grid)

Well my inverter just blew up the other day after many years of service and a ton of abuse. It's got me thinking, I always complain about how 110VAC is bad, inefficient and so on. My only uses of AC at the moment are power tools, my desktop(in storage) my TV and antenna booster. The last 3 I...

Well, I own a truck now

I pick it up tomorrow and am now just realizing this is the first time my name will be on the title of a 4x4. It's a long bed(99% sure as there was 3 stake pockets on each side) 81 Chevy K10 with a recently replaced v8, the VIN says it was originally a 305(I will check the casting numbers...

    Sam's club or Trojan?

Alright so I need real batteries but am left with the the choice,  Trojan T105s,roughly $270 for a pair just across town Sam's club GC2 batteries, roughly $180 but would cost an extra $20 in gas round trip and potentially some fast food.  The Trojans are obviously the better battery and have...

    A grill thread

I was thinking about something as I was listing my grill on CL for trade, we don't have a grill thread? A quick search gave me nothing, we have so many stove threads about peoples preferences but no grill thread until now.  So how about grills? propane, charcoal or infrared? table top, folding...

    The mitsubishi... It's time.

200 posts, 13 months living in it, over 2 years on CRVL and I just moved to a campground where I can work on it. It's time for the mitsubishi to get it's build thread. Up until this point I have setup everything loosely in the van for living in it and got the motor knocking narrowed down to...

    Coleman thermoelectric cooler worth saving?

Long story short is I saved it from taking a trip to the dump. both fans are seized. They are off the shelf 60mm and 92mm computer fans so it will be about $10 to replace both of them. When I plug it in the heat sink inside gets cold and the one outside gets warm so I think the problem is only...

any reason why i can't? battery bank question.

i have noticed with most battery banks the positive is switched off while leaving the ground hooked up 24/7. why is this? it would seem more logical to me to have all the positives hooked to each other, including the starting battery and the entire electrical system then switches on each ground...
