Solar system fires?

Thanks for the replies. I wondered if it would be ok to just disconnect the m4 connections, but when I was installing the system, the instructions said to keep the panels covered while installing since they produce electricity whether or not they are connected to anything. My concern is if the...

    Solar system fires?

I want to mount my solar panels on my van roof, but I am not a fulltimer and only use the van for occasional getaways. I am concerned about panels continuously producing electricity when it is not being used regularly. My system is 200 watts with a 30 amp pmw charger, and I think I have...

    Regular or Extended??

I had an 06 Ford extended with a high top. Got 8 mpg city, 13 highway, and handling was awful. Really awful! Just got a 2013 Chevy 6 cyl SWB. I'm getting 20 mpg, and it handles like a car. Undecided if I will put a high top on it. I'm trying a rolling stool first because I like the low...

    Weight on van frame

Thanks for the answers. My kitchen is on the other side so I am trying to even up the weight by putting the batteries on the passenger's side. I just wasn't sure about that much weight behind the back wheel, in one spot.

    Weight on van frame

I am planning a floorplan for the chevy express 1500 that I just bought. I want to put my two batteries (total weight 140 pounds) behind the passengers side wheel well. Will that much weight behind the wheel well cause frame damage eventually?

How does Bob get the mysterious 1/2" of air in walls?

I would be interested in hearing results from reflectix placed against the metal causing rust too. Sometime back, I read about someone's dad who put a foil backed material on the underside of their camper van ceiling, and it eventually rusted the entire roof. Has anyone who has done this had a...

    Northeast High Top Conversions

Sherrod Vans in Waycross Georgia will put a high top on for you. They only put on the aerodynamic 17 inch tops for short wheel base Chevys or GMCs. No Fords or Nissans. I was quoted a price of $3,000 plus sales tax which included labor. Styles other than the 17" aerodynamic would be about $1000...

    Solar question

Thanks for the replies. I'll quit worrying about frying my batteries. I tested the battery level even after the battery full light was blinking like crazy, and it never went over 13.54.

    Solar question

I have two 100 watt panels and two 125 amp batteries connected to a Renogy 30 amp PMW controller. When the sun is out and the batteries are charging, the battery full light blinks. If I do not use any of the stored power and my panels continue to produce watts, and the battery full light...

WOMENS' FORUM: Do you use your van to take vacations from unhappy husbands

ROFL.... I didn't realize so many people were doing this too. I get away 4-5 nights a month and have been doing it for almost five years. It's way cheaper than divorce which would leave me destitute. And DH is so much nicer to me (for about a week) after I return. So goes the process, and it...

    Engel Refrigerator sale

The big difference is the amps used. My Dometic 15 qt uses 5 amps per hour. The Engel uses .7 on refrig, or 2.8 on freezer when running. Big difference when you are on solar. There are several posts on this forum about refriges that run batteries down in a 24 hr period. My 200 watts couldn't...

    Little air conditioner

Hi Stargazer. I am really interested in the flush fit backside of your AC. I looked at Lowes website but the specs don't say if it is flush fit, nor do pics show that. Is this something you did, or is it how the AC casing was designed? I would really like to have one of those! Gail

mobile AC unit help for my dog and i

Hi Afree. I had one of the LG portable ACs and found several ways to make it work better. First, you do have to find a way to exhaust the hot air outside; otherwise, the unit is just fighting against itself. Make sure though that it is not vented where the hot air will blow down around the...

Hi gunnersmom. I don't know of any women with small children on this forum, but as far as seat belt laws, etc. Brenda Curtis' ebook has a list of seatbelt laws in each state. Her link is in the subject post below this one. This forum is full of really good advice as far as the...

    Mattress platform condensation

An cheap and easy solution is to drill 2 doorknob-size holes in the platform, get a heavy duty sheet of plastic, lay it over the mattress, then pull it down over teh sides of the mattress and staple it underneath the platform so the plastic totally encases the mattress and is secured...
