Where to go for diesel heater install

My experience with propane furnaces (Suburban and Dometic) vent the products of combustion outside the living space thus the water goes outside. Little Buddy propane-type heaters do not vent the combustibles outside and that is why you had to open your windows to release the moisture (and the...

Looking for a comprehensive solar power resource guide

Will is killin it. I have followed him for years as he grew up and as he grew into his now full-fledged solar business. Very proud of him and his accomplishments. He is following his passion and making a fortune doing it. He is an authority in the solar business.

These generators are back in stock

That's a hefty Genset at 100 lbs. I have the Wen 56235i (1900W) and it only weighs 39 lbs. It runs my 13.5k BTU AC without a softstart. Two of those would be easier to handle by one person, have 600 more watts of total power in parallel, and the total weight for two units would be 22 lbs. less.

    About that 12v DC Refrigerator......

3 or 4 year old $299 Alpicool C50 here doing great. Low power consumption (45 watts). I had it in my RV in 2018, 2019, and 2020. Then into the boat for the past 9 months, covered 5,000 miles, and took it out last week to put it back into my RV for the next year of duty there. EDIT: It has a 4.4...

Money down and now RV inspection

If it's just a bunch of nitpicky items take it anyway. Those things are always are present it seems. If there are some more expensive problems discovered - either negotiate the price down by those amounts and take it or walk. But be sure of this: it's a seller's market right now.

    RTR thoughts

The RTR (to me) means socializing and partying (cooking, and eating with friends). I drove 2,000 miles each way to camp at the old RTR location because there wasn't anything on Bob's calendar I wanted to see/hear. I camped about 200 yards from the PartyR in Scadden Wash and I was in bed by 8/9...

    Domestic fridge amp draw...rated current?

Go with the Dometic published max power. Your wiring needs to be rated for the max wattage rating. Edit: Accuracy

Caution for RV Owners Using Lithium Batteries

I understand (somewhat) the pros/cons of Lithium but decided to stay on AGM/SLA. And I was very happy with the 50Ah usable I had with the single 100 Ah SLA battery. I do not live in my RV I just use it for vacation/travel. So going to the three 100 Ah (150 Ah usable) will now be a huge luxury...

Can House Batteries Be 14 Feet Apart?

Ok. I think I have things figured out now. The 17+ year old Dometic fridge recently went kaput so instead of repairing it I decided to replace with with the 50 Qt Alpicool C50 and that left me just enough space under it for the 3 house batteries. Now I just gotta make decorative cover(s) to...

    the future of van life

If vehicle dwelling in public spaces became more popular (for whatever reason) in a city like San Francisco (population 5 million) you could have a crisis. If a tiny fraction (say a half percent) of SF decided to live in their vehicles that would mean quarter million vehicles being lived in at...

    Supreme Court blocks prosecuting homeless

I don't understand how this applies to vehicle dwellers since the ruling addresses sleeping and camping outdoors in public versus sleeping inside a vehicle in public. I can see a tiny degree of relation to us vehicle dwellers but it seems to be almost perpendicular. Now. That said. I could see a...

Caution for RV Owners Using Lithium Batteries

Thanks for posting the chemical type above but apparently (from what I just read) Lithium battery owners should contact their particular manufacturer since different Lithium Ion battery types and brands require different types of fire extinguisher chemicals (so I just learned). Contacting the...

Going from 1 House Battery to 3

This is not a Mighty Max chart. It is an industry standard discharge 'battery behavior curve' for commonly available AGM Lead Acid batteries (like mine or Renogy's or Windy Nation's). The chart is not meant to be deceptive. It is meant to show the behavior for common SLA/AGM batteries. Mighty...

Going from 1 House Battery to 3

Sure it does. The 10 hour curve reflects roughly 90 Ah total capacity (TC) at 50% discharge level. Why is it below 100 AH? Well I did me some learnin' LOL. The curves below shows progressively higher discharge rates (thus lower terminal voltages) going left and thus reflects a lower total...

Caution for RV Owners Using Lithium Batteries

Lithium battery owners: this interview Pippi Peterson did in September with industry expert Mark Snyder regarding solar systems cautions owners about battery fires. He has built or installed over 10,000 systems and is an advocate for Lead Acid over lithium battery technology (I found that...

    my E-150 van battery question

Those are cool little voltage readers that plug into cig lighter. I have two of them in my RV and they are great for a quick glance at battery level to see when to recharge (12.3 VDC). I keep one on my house battery and one on my engine battery. Note: Do not leave them plugged in all the time as...
