going without... (cellphone that is) anyone?

Well it took only a few minutes and I'll stick with my 8 year old garmin eTrex, paper maps, and compass. The app doesn't give me anything I don't already have.

going without... (cellphone that is) anyone?

I'm going to look at this. I carry a Garmin eTrex hcx that has served me well for years. I constantly get free updated maps and have routes and waypoints from 20+ trips to the southwest. I suspect that better life is far better with the eTrex than with my Moto Pure X but it's worth a shot even...

going without... (cellphone that is) anyone?

Have had trackfones for over a decade. $110 a year is good. I actually have 2. A $10 phone with verizon and an expensive phone (I use to write apps for android) that has AT&T that I now use to watch YT vids. So $220 a year. I turn them off when I don't need them. That $10 phone I just can't...

Renogy Rover 40amp MPPT throwing "ACr" code

I'm not using the load terminals on the controller. I know what the load terminals "could" be used for in a solar system (not wind) and I chose not to use it/them when designing my system.  And by the way, if I had, it would not have resulted from the description I gave of my problem.

Renogy Rover 40amp MPPT throwing "ACr" code

All,  Still building my van. Put 2 100w renogy panels on the roof with a renogy mppt 40a controller. All has been working fine for the past 3 months. Only thing drawing current every day is my fridge (engle 40qt dc on low). Still buidling it out so not using lights or anything else I have in the...

    Simple Versus Elaborate Buildout

Agree. And I honestly thought I lived a fairly spartan life until I started to downsize to van size. The 1st thing I did was a bit different though, I decided on what climate in general I would spend most of my time in. I know 1 woman that loves to cook and she spend a lot more time in her van...

    Acorns and solar panels

no problem with peanut sized hail. heck i've noticed that a few inches of dirt will reduce your power and if you're in series....

    Simple Versus Elaborate Buildout

If you want/need a sink, look on YT for a guy that made one using PVC and a home depot 5gallon bucket. He used a 12v pump but I would use a marine foot pump instead. I think he put a 3 gallon water jug inside it and also allowed for hose use.  I decided against a sink for now and use a...

Bed / Mattress Height (non High top van)?

For what it is worth - but please know that I am new. Brand new, just finishing my 09 chevy express this week. I plan on boondocking and restocking in town once a week. Doing photography and hiking so my needs may be different. I redesigned and built my bed 4 times. Just took too much space for...

Does anyone have a med-large dog in your Van?

My 2 cents. Just remember to exercise her mind as well. You'll have a lot of acting up if her mind is not challenged. There's a lot on YT about this. The couple that lives downstairs from me (I am just finishing up my van build now) has a BC and they very successfully used a clicker to train...

    Laptop storage in van

noted. I'm beginning to think that just hiding it under my towels is best.

    Laptop storage in van

Understand. A few years back I had my Jeep Wrangler torn apart by the Canadian police at the border. I had a habit (which I no longer have) of hiding some travel cash under the rug. The guy saw the corner of 1 bill and that was it, get the dog, rip the Jeep apart, and take a seat for a long...

    Laptop storage in van

thanks but that's not an option for me because as a personal preference, I don't do Apple. And I'm looking for storage/security ideas for a laptop anyway.

    Laptop storage in van

hmmm. interesting, i'm using a 50cal box for paperwork now. but the safe idea may solve both problems. thanks.

    Laptop storage in van

All, I have a chevy express that I am almost done building out for my needs. I've done everything expecting things to change so I have flexibility. But I have 1 think I don't know where to put so I'm looking for suggestions or how you've done things. It's my laptop (and also I have a smaller...
