    Still planning

Hi Katie, I am in the position as you. I now am living in a HUD apartment with wanderlust. I lived in a motor home for 5 years full time and some years ago sold it and settled in a house. After a divorce 2 years ago I moved back to Ohio where, because of low fixed income, I applied and luckily...

    I'm failing at Van Dwelling

You are doing the same thing I am. I too live in a low income apartment. I only pay $225 a month. They are available in most counties and sometimes there are waiting lists but you just have to keep applying at as many as you can. Eventually something will come available. It's so comforting to...

    I'm failing at Van Dwelling

Wow, I see you are finding out what I did and the only difference is that I tried it out for a month before making any decision to give up my comfortable home. Living in a vehicle is rough. I don't care who you are. After a month of sleeping in a vehicle and living by my wits I decided that...

Homeless at a crossroads of decision

Yes I got lucky. But I was determined. I also had luck on my side and one of the places I applied to informed me of another one that was in the same group of HUD properties that had a couple apts available. So I went there right away and was moved in the very next day. I was glad to get out of...

Homeless at a crossroads of decision

You are right Sara the wait lists are long. But after applying to about 20 different low income senior apartments I finally landed one. It is pretty far out but it is very very nice . Rent is only 30% of my income and that includes electric. I am pretty happy living here. Although I still yearn...

Homeless at a crossroads of decision

The ones I have applied to are mostly on the outside of the city like you suggested. They are HUD assist. The rent is 30% of income. Which includes electric for most apartments. Not a bad deal really. But I am not sure that I want to live in one of these.  I am a pretty active guy and can't see...

Homeless at a crossroads of decision

This sounds good to me. Although I am paid up till August 4th in my extended stay hotel. If things don't change and I still don't have housing I have it in my mind to head out West to the Flagstaff area where the tribe members are staying.  I have put in so many applications...... over20...

Homeless at a crossroads of decision

Right now I am registered in Florida. I think maybe I will keep it that way till I can see if it would be better to register somewhere else. Right now I am good till October. So I have time to see which way to go on the registration. Thanks for the heads up.

Thank you Txjaybird. This is very good to know. I am going to add this to my free and inexpensive camping list. You can't beat $10 a night for all that. Thanks again

Homeless at a crossroads of decision

It may get down to that. But I think I will have to be a little more particular than the coin toss. Maybe for lessor important items. That is a different way to look at it. But it might take a lot of coin flips to decide on some items.

Homeless at a crossroads of decision

Your friend is right. I have saved a ton of money over the years. And I can cut my hair once a week if I want and it doesn't cost me any extra. Except for the electricity to run it of course. Just a few cents.

I don't know if you misunderstood what the Flowbee is. It is used to cut the hair on your head. You can't shave with it. And I don't think I want to attempt to cut my hair with a razor. That would be a mess I would create. LOL

Homeless at a crossroads of decision

I swear....nothing gets past you all!!! LOL Yes you are correct it what is known as a suck and cut. I have had this for at least 35 years. I could never find any barber or hair stylist to cut my hair correctly. This thing always does a great job. I just couldn't bare to leave it when I had to...

Homeless at a crossroads of decision

My vehicle is in great shape. What I am planning on doing is heading toward Arizona because from all that I have researched on this site mostly is going to be a good starting point when I go. I think it's going to be easier for me to find others there that I have been communicating with to guide...

Homeless at a crossroads of decision

Even though the HUD apartments (boxes) I am applying to are very well maintained and in good neighborhoods, I am not happy thinking of myself living in one. They still do put me in mind of institutional living. I am not used to that at all. What you describe about being a Rubber Tramp is what...

Homeless at a crossroads of decision

Well, thanks for the offer but I already have a 2014 Ford Escape that I have set up as a live in vehicle. I posted a couple pics of it in my original post. I have used it in the past as a road tripper and did well in it. My problem is that I don't know if I should still be trying to get these...

Homeless at a crossroads of decision

My name is Steve and I was a member of this site before but decided to delete my account for personal and privacy reasons at the time. But now my life has changed and I am back. At 66 years of age I am at a crossroads in my life right now. Should I wait around for low income housing or just...
