Turn off the frig/freezer at night?

So I am in my third night of full time RV'ing. I have more experience on sailboats where it's pretty common to turn off the refrigerator (ice box style) to conserve battery power at night. With an RV it is running on propane. Does anyone shut off their refrigerator/freezer to conserve propane at...

    Netflix now offers downloads

Good news for nomads that have wifi access. Netflix offers downloads for a lot of good titles. I think it only works for mobile devices; Cell phones and tablets. It's a nice addition to entertainment options that we have.

    HELP NOW!

Here is an example of illegals getting a Nevada DL. These illegal residents wouldn't pay sales tax either. Regardless of Maxine's immigration status she still needs to have a state in which she resides. http://lasvegas.cbslocal.com/2014/01/02/long-lines-for-driver-privilege-cards/

    HELP NOW!

This depends on the state. I'm not sure about Arizona but in Nevada if you buy from a private party there is no sales tax. period. If you buy from a sales lot then you pay sales tax. Of course you need to be a resident of Nevada.

    The Peace of wild things

Wendell Berry When despair for the world grows in me and I wake in the night at the least sound in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be, I go and lie down where the wood drake rests in the beauty on the water, and the great heron feed. I come into peace of wild things who do not...

    2015 Chevy City Express

I frequently look at my local credit union for repos. I bought a really nice touring motorcycle for 50% off the MSRP a couple years ago. Well, I was looking today and there is a 2015 Chevy City Express. It's similar to the Ford Connect in size. The bidding starts at $16k and it has 1000 miles...

How do you fill your free time?

The KLR is new to me. I decided on it after a lot of research. I got a gen 2 with 1300 miles. I think I have the same crash bars with highway pegs. I have never seen front panniers on a klr. Where did you get yours? My only complaint so far is that I'm 6'3 and need a taller windshield above...

How do you fill your free time?

Thanks for the responses. An RC plane would be pretty fun, medal detecting might be an option as well. I also plan on buying an inflatable kayak that can be kept in my RV. Towing a trailer isn't an option right now. I have a motorcycle carrier on back with a KLR650 enduro bike. If I could have a...

Article: "Is living off the grid the new American Dream?"

I read a book on minimalism a while back and I wrote down this quote. I can't remember the author. “Waldenlust.” This longing takes several forms: fantasies of the freedom that dispossession would bring; nostalgia for earlier, supposedly simpler times; and reverence for the primitive, which is...

How do you fill your free time?

Hi, just wondering what everyone does for hobbies. Since we live in small spaces many hobbies aren't possible. I tinker on the guitar, I plan on buying a mountain bike, I read quite a bit. I find that it is a little tough filling 16hrs of free time. Thanks

    Library access?

It's nice that most libraries offer ebooks. You can get them regardless of where you are as long as your account is active. There are plenty of places with free AC, seating, and wifi. I have also used kindle unlimited in the past. Plenty of reading options. Most US libraries use a mobile app...

Motivation , getting things done and being productive

I have a ton of respect for do-it-yourself van conversion people. I wouldn't even know where to start. Personally, I have to-do lists that are two years old that haven't been done. lol That's why I have an RV not a house. Much less to maintain. I'm sure there is a certain amount of...

    anyone considering mexico?

First off, when someone considers moving abroad they visit the location. Problem is they visit during the nicest part of the year. If you do buy property you need to live there for a year first. You need to experience all four seasons. I recommend living close to a local standard of living...

    anyone considering mexico?

Well, 20,000 expats are relative to 4 million in Guadalajara. The expats are there when you want them. There are plenty of other people to meet as well.

    anyone considering mexico?

I figure make hay while the sun shines. This exchange rate won't last forever. I have read enough expat/travel blogs that I know to never buy property in a foreign country. When the party ends you start your engine and leave. lol. Of course I'd never go to a country just because it is cheap. You...

Can using cruise control be hard on engines transmissions?

I would say that it will cause more wear on a motor/transmission when the tranny downshifts to go uphill. With a V8/V10 motor it is better to use the low end torque and keep the rpm's low. I wouldn't call it "damage" as much as wear. One thing I wish my V10 had is a tachometer. If I have music...
