@East ~ seemed like once the carpet was up, the underlayments released their odors. The price of the van was so excellent, I don't think the owner was too concerned with this part. I hope the OP will not find this problem though!

In tearing out a conversion van's flooring, siding, and wall insulation for a friend, I discovered the wood flooring under the carpet was particleboard. It had absorbed every wet thing that got to it, including pet urine. The foam carpet underlayment was also a stinky mess. Out it all went...
