Where are the best places with WIFI in AZ/NM?

Don't depend upon the state parks for free wifi. I've been to 9 parks in three years and none had it.

    Hitch Box

I learned to take a tape measure when hunting. I found some of the boxes were not the size stated on the box or literature. Off by a quarter of an inch or so. Then there may be a slight slope to the box or a bolt head that sticks inside just a bit.

Who would a landowner contact about hosting caravans?

What are my rights if a visitor leaves an inoperable vehicle or dwelling on my property?

    Camper Top Build Plans

I lift up my camper bed to access stuff below. The older I get the harder it is to squish the thick mattress. If I would ever redo it, I would screw down a length of x4 or x6 lumber across the back. From that edge I would install the hinges. That way when I lift the bed I don't have to squish...

campground sites - can you leave them empty?

Was recently looking at some NM camping opportunities on the reservation site. This is on Reserved America site... Reserved campsites shall become available to other visitors if the visitor holding the reservation does not occupy the reserved site or contact Reserve America or the park by 4...

campground sites - can you leave them empty?

I carry a wooden sign that can be seen from at least thirty feet. White with black letters. "OCCUPIED". Can't miss it. I prop it up facing the direction others would come from. I learned this from a woman who carries a shoulder bag with the same words. She hangs it on the number post...

Newbie and afraid to take the next step

Don't have one for the van yet.  I'm still stuck at wireless or wired and what do I view it through now that my nexus 7 broke.

    Candles during vanlife?

I have one of the camping candles in the half glass lantern. I ordered replacement candles and they weren't quite the same size. Sure, I thought. They are close enough. Melted candle wax all over the place.

how do you protect solar panels hail?

In the mountains of southern New Mexico at about 9000 feet I expect every rainstorm to begin with small hail. I move under trees if the hail gets a touch big, but mostly I just sit and enjoy it.

Newbie and afraid to take the next step

Go to a big open parking area, lay out some cones and practice backing into different scenarios. Practice driving up to gas pumps. Take short trips. Put a backup camera on your trailer. Your confidence will soar.

    Audiobooks anyone?? Updates, suggestions?

I use LibriVox.org, free public domain audiobooks. Listened to the Histories vol 1, 2, 3 by Herodotus, Ancient Greek historian. I'm totally impressed there were any people left to populate the earth.

My son will be living in a Van very soon

HeatherC, you are to be congratulated for not going ballistic like a lot of parents would do and educating yourself on vanliving. Just be careful. Next thing you know you will be buying a van...

One tool to replace socket sets, crescent wrench etc

My tool bag is blooming heavy.  I'd like to lighten it by buying maybe one, two tools to replace metric and standard socket sets and crescent wrenches.  Anybody find anything that works well?

Forest Service Sign... teepee with slash

Recently went to one of my favorite spots in the New Mexico Sacramento Mountains and was surprised to find the spot empty of mobile dwellers.  It's a long spot parallel to the gravel road and reasonably flat with lots of shade trees.  On closer inspection I found two signs posted on trees. ...

Landy re-configure... Productive day at the rubbish dump

Don't varnish a cutting board or a board you will be putting a hot pot on.  You need a food approved penetrating oil.  The heat will melt the varnish.  Not sure if you can put a hot pot on the oil either.

Tried this couple yrs ago - unprepaired.

Howdy Keith in AZ. Sweet looking ride.  The first thing I'd do it take the unneeded chairs/seats out.  That will give you room to live in until you figure out what you want to do.

Any Tips on Rio Arriba County, N.M.

I agree the view on 84 is awesome. Thirty miles east as the crow flies of Tres Piedras is Red River. Right now nights in the mid 40s. Days in the 70s. There seems to be an art to not making many places to boondock in those mountains. Nearby national and state campgrounds stay full all...

Hey Dean. I hope you are cooler than I am in southern New Mexico. Yesterday first day of 100. Today 101. Grrr. Gonna go hang out in the mountains.
