    Thaiger Van - 97 Ford E150

Check craigs list, I've bought lots of seats on there for between $30 and $100.  I've also gotten bases on the list for as little as $15.  My current seat cost $40, full captains seat with both arms and swivel mount in good shape.  True my passenger seat and driver seat don't match, but then...

    Stealth Versus General Look

I'm watching this forum and see a major question, how important is stealth to you plans versus having the overall look of the vehicle being good? When boondocking, look is more a matter of pride than need, but if you do as I do and occasionally find cheap rental space in or around cities then...

    A Cheap Place to Start

Biggest problem is having a place to move the unit to and work on it. Corky

    A Cheap Place to Start

You get van, then you either get paper work straight or strip it, selling the parts and sell the remains for scrap.  I'd say either way you come out ahead.   Not for the faint of  heart, but doable.   Corky

    A Cheap Place to Start

I've been through the paperwork grinder twice in the last six months, just takes time and more time if you get a notarized bill of sale and take the time to walk things through.   You will end-up with a salvage title, but that's not a big deal if you are buying to fix and live in.  You can get...

    A Cheap Place to Start

Not everybody is rich and can buy perfect! Elbow grease and sweat equity are all some have to invest.  I doubt you can find an easier and cheaper chassis to get parts for and the house part is easy to work on as well.  Corky

    A Cheap Place to Start

http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/rvs/4950697756.html Guy wants to get it moved, price doesn't seem fixed, more like first money will take it.  Shell looks good and chassis is easy to get worked on or to do it yourself from junk yards. I don't like the rear door, but then again it is a cheap...

    Van Driving Style

I try to keep the MH out of towns and drive it by a vacuum gauge.  On the road 55 mph seems to be both a sweet spot and a legal limit with a towed in many states.  I have the time so none of the speed is needed and I sure get to seem more of the country I'm driving through. Corky

Flash Water Heater After One Year

I've had the Camp Chef flash water heater in use for one year now, thought I'd post my thoughts on it now. Only problem I've had is a small leak from the drain plug at extremely high water pressure, fixed the problem by tightening the plug with pliers rather than just by hand. I find that the...

1986 Chevy Camper Van/ Motor Home

We'd need a manufacture and model, plus engine size would be nice.  Lots of things it might be from what you posted, so it's hard to say much.  Interior is just wood and fabric, easy to replace if the house and chassis are good.   Pictures would help a whole lot. Corky

RV's are just that Recreation Vehicles

OG, I agree 250%!    Nothing beats taking time to think, plan and even build cardboard box mock ups Corky.

RV's are just that Recreation Vehicles

Bob, The heart of this place is a bunch of people making their living spaces what they want and mobile at the same time.  How we do it is what keeps us talking. Corky

RV's are just that Recreation Vehicles

Many people seem overly concerned  with maintaining "resale value" of the vehicle, be it a van or an RV, bad move in my view.  I see it better to buy cheap and build both the chassis and the house to needs and plans.  I got a screaming deal on my old monster because of it's age, and the interior...

RV's are just that Recreation Vehicles

Lee, Much of it has to do with how you want to live, and I chose to make my spaces fit my life style and not to fit my life style to the spaces!  I sold my large house fit for a family and don't buy into the idea that I should live in an RV designed for a family to live out of for a few weeks a...

RV's are just that Recreation Vehicles

Cyndi, I live in the van and it's a mess right now, plus I'm a function builder, not a craftsman, much of what I do looks pretty raw compared to what I see posted here by others.  My footstool is an example of my style, a milk crate with a closeout seat pad from Big Lots on it.  Not pretty but...

RV's are just that Recreation Vehicles

OAI, Some of the drive trains are actually pretty good, mine is an Econline E350, with a 460, plenty of power and fairly strong, shell is all honey comb fiberglass, good insulation, really strong and easy to maintain.  The problem was the interior design was for something other than what I...

RV's are just that Recreation Vehicles

I'm about two-thirds done with the conversion of my Trans-Van from an RV to a Mobile Living Space, and looking at the changes.  RV's are designed to be lived out of, not in.  RV's are designed for maximized sleeping places, not for true living spaces.  About half or more of the RV hardware is...
