Thanks everyone. As I mentioned, my fob has no horn blowing capability, only light flashing. There seems to be a consensus that it’s a good thing to alert outside parties that there may be a complication with trying to break into the van. The other precautions mentioned are ones that I already take.

Totally agree with @Geneeus about the junk in popcorn. Whole Foods Market sells a box of three microwavable bags of popcorn only—no salt or oil. Comes out to a little over a dollar a bag. I keep a few of these in my van and when I’m in the mood, ask to use the microwave oven in a grocery store...
