Which bank is most convenient for van life?

I have checking with Fidelity. They reimburse fees from any ATM. When you withdraw cash just accept the charges, and a few days later you will see a credit for the amount of the fees.

Question: Should you use fob to flash lights?

Thanks everyone. As I mentioned, my fob has no horn blowing capability, only light flashing. There seems to be a consensus that it’s a good thing to alert outside parties that there may be a complication with trying to break into the van. The other precautions mentioned are ones that I already take.

Question: Should you use fob to flash lights?

Here's the situation: I'm sleeping in my van in an urban setting at 3:30 AM when I'm awoken by one or more people outside my van whom I suspect has ill intentions. Is it a good idea to use my key fob lock button, which will flash my lights three times? (My fob has no horn blowing capability.)...

Microwave popcorn (NO, not that kind......)

Totally agree with @Geneeus about the junk in popcorn. Whole Foods Market sells a box of three microwavable bags of popcorn only—no salt or oil. Comes out to a little over a dollar a bag. I keep a few of these in my van and when I’m in the mood, ask to use the microwave oven in a grocery store...

    From RoadTrek to Transit Connect

Still loving it.  I do mostly urban stealth. If I were doing campgrounds or dispersed camping I might do something different.

    Epub Reader

Calibre. It's available for Mac, Windows, and Linux. You can convert among formats, such as ePub and PDF. With a plugin, you can even remove DRM from Kindle books when importing. And you can edit ebooks as well.

Smaller bucket for Luggable Loo seat

I use a 2 gallon bucket, without a seat, as a potty and a trash can. The smaller opening of the 2 gallon bucket keeps me from falling in, and alleviates the need for a seat. I use standard 8 gallon trash bags. The bags allow for lots of draping over the sides of the bucket as sort of a safety...

    How to travel slow?

To address the "meeting people" part of your question:  I use meetups.com to meet people while I'm traveling.  I'm mostly an "urban stealth" traveller, which is the situation meetup.com works best for. You can find meetups in all urban areas and for all kinds of interests. I attend meetups for...

Does cloud computing make no sense for me?

I used to use Crashplan and Backblaze, using incremental backups that synced only what had changed.  I now prefer to use as cloud service and put all my user files in the cloud directory.   Files get synced immediately upon save, or when I reconnect if I'm not on the internet.  If I'm using my...

Folding Bicycle for the Van / Small RV Dweller

I've had a Bike Friday. They make a quality bike for sure. I'm now using a Brompton. It's the smallest folding bike I could find, and it folds and unfolds in about 15 seconds, literally. They are expensive, but exude quality. I've been following the English company since the late 70's, and...

    From RoadTrek to Transit Connect

I don't know for , as I've only used it for 15 minutes or less.  But it cools down very quickly, and won't stay cool long at all.  Long idling is just not a requirement for me because I chase 70F.  I don't let it idle long, so I'm not worried about engine damage.  I don't know if this makes a...

    From RoadTrek to Transit Connect

I generally chase 70F.  This year I've stayed in Miami, Charleston, Asheville, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Santa Monica, and I"m now in San Diego.   I haven't really needed air except for a couple of times for really short periods during the day.  I just run the auto air.  My research seemed...

nissan nv200 how do i make a privacy curtain

Just to clarify - I also used a rod for the front. What I described above was for the back windows, and the windows on the sliding doors.

nissan nv200 how do i make a privacy curtain

I went to a fabric shop and bought headliner material and cut to size.  It's black on one side, which goes out, and grey on the other side.  The unique thing about this material is that it acts as velcro "loop". I got velcro glue strips and lined glass along the edges with the hook side.  I...

    Any other Vegan Dwellers?

I have a Yeti Cooler, but I usually just keep the fruits in a bin. I'm usually doing urban stealth, so I'm close to a grocery store and can go often. Here's one of the things I do: I go into Trader Joe's or wherever, and buy 3 or 4 of the following: frozen corn, frozen peas, precooked frozen...
