It's not a van, but to add to the data:

2012 Ram 2500 4X4 pickup, standard cab, 8' box, 5.7l gas engine, automatic transmission.  50,000 miles on clock.
Four Wheel Camper Grandby pop-up camper.
Camper weighs 1250 lbs fully loaded; truck, camper, me and 'the monkey' = 7920 lbs

Highway speed @ 68 MPH (sweet spot for this truck) = 14.2 MPG
Dirt road speed @ 20 MPH = 13.7 MPG

Nice rig there with that big box :)

1990 Grumman Olson all aluminum body Step Van.   3.9L  4BT  4 cylinder turbo diesel Cummins motor with a 4 speed rock crusher manual transmission.

Dual rear wheels, 15 foot bed, 7 1/2 foot ceiling, and the aerodynamics of a box going down the road.

17 MPG freeway, a bit more on the city streets.

Top speed is about 55 mph, I suspect it has a governor on it, but I'm not in a hurry so I don't mind.

This is a 100% mechanical diesel, so an EMP won't bother it at all.   No electronics for the motor, no computer or computer modules.

The best of all, it's hella fun to drive!

I am a little surprised with the outcome and having owned a 1972 Grumman with a 350 Gm gas engine was lucky to get 15mpg single rear and auto trans.
Keep her running now with the 5.9 12 valve Dodge pickup with camper 19.666 MPG, and noon smog required

Figured I add to the mix.

1991 Dodge Ram B250 5.2L Extended (roof rack, 230w solar panel, off road lights) = about 10mpg :(

1986 Chevrolet G30 HI CUBE, 6.2 Diesel, TH 400 Trans.   Doing about 55 to 60 MPH I get about 22 to 23 MPG.  The most ever 25 MPG.   City driving about 17 MPG  for those of you that don't know what a HI CUBE is here is a pic

I finally got around to testing my mpg with the kayak strapped to the roof.
I figured it would be less than the 22 city/27 highway mileage I usually get, but I didn't know by how much.

2010 Ford Transit Connect XLT Cargo.  2.0 Liter 4-cyl. w/4-speed automatic/overdrive.
Cruising between 65 & 70 mph (not using cruise control), on mostly level highway, I was getting 22.2 to 23.7 mpg.

Lake Solano Park.  Winters, Ca.

Impressive! Thanks for the picture.  That is a nice looking van with what looks like lots of space...

OK, just completed a 650 mile trip one way.
Recap on van, 2003 Dodge B2500 (3/4 ton) standard van with no hi top, 318, 4 speed automatic.
Van was carrying a medium size load.
Hiway = 17.35 mpg.
Arrived at destination and topped off to check town mpg.
109 miles in town netted 13.55 mpg.
Combining the two netted an average of 15.45 mpg.
I'm afraid I have a way to go before I catch up to arctic cat's mpg, but I guess my mpg is doable. :p

2012 Chevy Express 2500(4.8L) Towing 6x12 Cargo Trailer 1500 lbs.

Trip west back to Clarksville, TN 233.6 miles, 16.76 gallons gas, 13.94 mpg

2016 ford transit van. High Roof, LWB. Diesel 350. Empty cargo van right now. Around town mpg readout says 19.6. that's been around town. Still have less than 1,000 miles so not sure what average will be yet.....

2016 Transit 250 LWB MR 3.7L gas.
The 1000 miles were local with an empty van: 18+ mpg
Just back from a long distance trip. Moderately loaded. Best mileage 21.7 mpg, but average 19.4 mpg.

Nice website - how about that Hyundai van you mention on there - I just saw one for the first time on a TV series...Hyundai makes good vehicles at a good price. Hope it makes it to the US.

I think that the US market for cargo vans, is ripe for some competition. More competition leads to innovation and we might save a buck at the same time.

Yes, indeed. I see a company is making hybrid, plug-in Chevy/GMC vans for fleet owners. In a couple of years they may be selling them to non-commercial buyers. That would be exciting.

My 03 3/4 ton Dodge with 5.2 just did 120 miles in town turning in a mpg of 12.481.

On a 250+ miles trip today, on mostly flat terrain, with a side wind, the A/C on about 3/4 of the time, driver window open the rest of the time, and cruising between 65 and 70, I got 17.3 MPG. It's an '07 Express 2500, 4.8L engine.

Those 1989-1991 Ford vans are some of the best ever made. EFI and OD trans are stout and last 200k miles when maintained. I have a 1990 Chinook on a Ford chassis weight is 10500 lbs and I get btwn 10-14 depending on terrain. 460 gas

I put ladder racks on the van - and pushed one up front to the rear part of the front door and then drove with and without air conditioning for about 20 miles each time and up and down the highway.

Putting one ladder rack up in the front of the van dropped about 1 mpg. Having the air conditioning on dropped about 1.5 mpg.

Putting the ladder rack about a foot back towards the rear of the van, I didn't notice any drop in MPG.
