Hello,

I would love to say I am a newbie but, I have been doing this lifestyle for a year now.

I have been having a hard time finding camp host jobs because I am single and nearly all listings want couples, and I have a van and so far all have offered RV hook-ups and don't particularly want a van in their RV section.

Any suggestions of websites that would cater more to singles in vans?

You might try volunteer.gov for National Parks and Monuments. Also look at Forest Service opportunities in whatever state you want to be in. The government parks tend to be less formal and many of the campground host positions go unfilled because most workampers tend to be couples with RVs and want hookups! So there is actually a niche for low tech people. Suggest you take a look at Sunny Skye's excellent book on workamping/camp hosting, which she has done in everything from a tent to a Casita and everything in between.

Welcome to the forum, it's great to have you here.

I believe she was hoping for paid employment rather than volunteer?

Look at coolworks.com and be exact when talking with employeers at national parks. Many offer housing or rv sites, many require 39 hours for usually between $10 and $11 an hour. Pets can be a problem so check before you commit. Lots of national park campgrounds are managed by private companies. Try the big tent after tne RTR.

Welcome, Kathy! I have seen ads from National Parks, even big ones like Yellowstone and Yosemite who are looking for people to work there during the summer at least. Your van would be perfect since you have to have a vehicle that a bear can't easily get into (no tents or trailers with tent pop-outs). They pay you a wage plus offer free camping. I was considering it myself at some point.

Another idea would be to form an alliance/partnership with another workcamper in your situation. "couples" does not have to mean romantic when it comes to Work Camping.

if you say you will work the more remote campgrounds you won't have as much problem. in a lot of places they don't care what your in. this is exactly what Bob did in his truck/van. I have seen single hosts at a lot of campgrounds.

if you buddy up with some one then you would have 2 vehicles and that might be a problem.

I know hoodoo(sp?) hires singles. pronounced "who do". at the big tent after RTR they are always a few companies hiring. you will find work there.

might have to try that next year, need to work on converting the van and figuring out how to keep my house going or get rid of it
