This was posted on another forum. Buyer Beware...just sharing the info

Desert Haven Animal Refuge
http://www.deserthavenanimalrefuge.com/

At this time, the Sierra County Humane Society/Desert Haven Animal refuge is
asking for volunteer help from both local residents of Sierra County, New Mexico
and from RVers looking to exchange an RV site for work at Desert Haven and/or
Paws n Claws Thrift Shoppe. Please share this link on your page and with anyone
you know who may be willing to invest their time in our cause.

It's a no-kill animal rescue- dogs cats, pheasants even!- beautiful place-
beautiful people. Work-camping is at the bottom of their RV Park page.
Gee that looks so good. If I was in van already and closer ....I would apply. LOL.

Yep same here and I plan to do so in the future. You can also use goodsearch for your internet search provider and every time you use it they donate one penny to the rescue and/or Humane Society. The link is one their website.

Thanks Cyndi ... now I can add this to the list I'm building. While we're at it. Does anyone know if there are work-camping ranches as well? I'm hoping to do some work with farm animals as well and this seems like a great way to gain some experience.

hey sl1966 (steve)

Too bad we're east coasters and you're a west coaster in this instance...my lady animal farmer friend looks for workcampers/RVers to come to her 27 acre farm in North Carolina to help care for her 3 Clydesdale horses, 2 Great Pyrenees dogs, 1 llama, 13 Alpine Milk Goats...U want animal experience, well here yer GO!!!!!

She occasionally gets HelpXers or WWOOFERS to come for short stays but never has enough help...talk about a 4XXXL petting zoo....and the Clydesdales are magnificent and gentle beyond belief for their size (up to 1600 pounds)...

What kind of animal experience are you looking for: Breeding...Veterinary...Show....Zoological????????? Hope you find what you're looking for. I'm now rescuing German Shepherd Dogs about to be killed....the economy has been just awful for animals...they need all the advocates they can get!!

Dust of the Sun

Well I lean towards the left coast because most of my family and friends are in SoCal, but that doesn't make me a stranger to the right coast. I've got family in the New York (born here) and New Jersey areas. I've got ties just about every where in this country or world for that matter. I'm living in the southern middle right now so I can get to either side in about the same amount of time.

Once upon a time I was toying with the idea of becoming a vet tech, but things changed too much and that is no longer viable or something I'm as sure about doing any longer. For now I'm not looking to work with one kind of animal or field specifically. I just want to get my hands dirty and see what I take a shine to.

Hi all...in regards to Cyndi's post about Desert Haven Refuge. My doggie Dina is spending the next two weeks there as it is also a boarding facility and is just a few miles south of Truth or Consequences ( I am leaving to take her there as soon as I get off the computer..:^))
They are a great outfit with every kind of animal you can think of from guinea pigs, to birds of all kinds and cats and dogs....when I volunteered there I would pick the chicken eggs, feed and water them and take the eggs home....yum!
My only caution is that it is a tough place to be in the summer.....over 100 is common and there is no shade in the rv part....otherwise, awesomeplace with astounding views and kind people...
Bri
