It looks like the biggest issues are there will be no water or garbage services at any BLM sites. Also of course no rangers to call if assistance is needed for whatever reason.

What I hope is people don't behave badly by piling their trash up in huge heaps around the dumpsters instead of taking it to another local waste facility where it can be dealt with in a sanitary manor. But knowing human nature many people will dump their waste there despite knowing it is going to create problems. This is a situation when all that waste out of the 5 gallon buckets can become a huge issue.

It just shut down, they left early.

Grand Canyon will be OPEN, according to their Twitter announcement this morning. That includes ALL services.

The Dire Wolfess

The federal parks run by concessions will be open.

Glen Canyon Rec Area has a sign that says "closed" but the gates are still open to traffic. Most federal employees treat this like a paid vacation as usually congress gives them retro pay even though they didn't have to report to work. Some areas won't get cleaned, trash may not get picked up but dump stations and potable water stay on, some restrooms may be locked but not all. Sometimes some of the launch ramps are closed but you still have to be able to take out boats so they are seldom locked, Law enforcement is limited but still available, so only life and death calls get a responce. No fees are collected so basically it is a free day. Take home with you what you bring, be safe and have a hassle free stay is the rule for short term shutdowns. Long term shutdowns in areas where trash and public health / safety become a concern may get some attention but with limited resources even closures in those areas are hard to enforce. My understanding is that the state in Utah and Arizona are covering costs to keep National Parks in their states open to prevent the huge loss of tourist dollars they experienced last time.

I don't know about campgrounds but the BLM mining records site is closed. !@#$%^&*. really there is no reason for this as a record is a record, it's not going to change. it was working last night but not tonight. maybe it won't be updated but what's there isn't going to change. sure wish the state of California would close down, I could use a few ounces of gold about now. LOL highdesertranger

last year i think it was just after the rtr there was a similar shutdown. the LTVA had signs posted at the entrances stating the services would be closed, no bathrooms, showers, dump stations and the like. but they also had signs with directions and phone numbers of where the close by services were. but they made no attempt to close the access to the area. i did run into a BLM ranger out driving around. i asked him about it and he said the law enforcement was still active and he was doing the patrol

Government shutdowns are avoidable and actually end up costing the taxpayer more not only in money but services which upsets and disturbes the general public into political action. Seems to be working with HDR and several others here. If you want less government and do not like being charged to simply stay on land citizens of this country own, now is your chance. You will also find that you will be responsible with the up keep as no one will empty the dumptster, treat your waste or clean the facility, deal with out of control dogs, tell someone to be quite in the middle of the night, and etc. If you out in the middle of nowhere on BLM land where there is no one normally any way, you won't even know there was a shut down and will do as you normally have to do by taking care of the land and yourself. Freedom is a lot of work after all it seems.

La Posa South LTVA is not manned but they haven’t shut off the water or dump station and the trash dumpsters are still being emptied

They just want to inconvenience the Public as much as possible to make their point.
