Hey guys. Kind of a newbie here.
Everywhere is so hot or crowded. Any ideas on cool places to go in the Flagstaff area. Maybe PNW.

Workamping makes an air conditioned space happen for us! It’s always 74 degrees even though it’s 103 outside!

Regardless of the area of the country, elevation is where it is at if you cannot afford to run Air.

Head northwest on az highway 180 out of Flagstaff. There is a lot of NFS dispersed camping up towards the top of the pass. That will be about the highest and the coolest temperature , easy access elevation camping spots. Stop by the Coconino National Forest rangers office in Flagstaff for a MVUM paper map that shows the forest service roads with dispersed camping. Use the Satellite view on google maps to see an aerial view of those roads. That way you can create pin drops for the turn-ins off hwy 180 to those roads so you do not drive past them.

When you camp in the forest near Flagstaff watch the ground conditions carefully. You do not want to get stuck in mud in a low spot when the monsoon season rains begin. The monsoon pattern of the weather clouding up between 12am and 3pm is just this week beginning. But no major rainfall or thunderstorms yet, but within a few weeks there will be midday rain most days. July is the hottest and wettest month in the Flagstaff area. But that is just an average, things can be a bit different than average.

Glyn, welcome to the Van Living Forum :)

I don't know if you've seen this little Youtube Video, but it tracks the 70 degree weather thru each day of the year across the USA. It can be handy to know about. (it is in the bottom link below)

You may have to stop it every few seconds to be able to understand it as it goes fast. At the top of the video is the month and day so you can plot it on your own road map (with notes) so you can determine where you would want to go for the summer or winter.

Good luck :)

Where is the normal 70 degree weather

Thank you so much. That YouTube info is great

It will be exactly 70 degrees at least twice a day most days this summer where I am camped in Northern Arizona 😆

For that reason I like to go further north and and west in summer. Flagstaff has gotten too popular...

The area around every city that allows dispersed camping is popular. It is not just Flagstaff.

Sounds like a great reason to avoid camping around cities.

Try checking around the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Not as many amenities, but it is around 8-9K' elevation. Check the North Kaibab National Forest . It is the same NF as the South Rim, just other side of the Grand Canyon.
