Other than Oregon and California, where is the place to be in August. Thinking Asheville, maybe...???

The password for the internet at the info center at Watson Lake, Yukon was “heatwave”. It’s pretty hot up here also...  ;-(

I was in the NC mountains a couple of weeks ago, 90 every day... Was so hot we left.

LG, there is a thread in the Newcomers group about NC. I should think if you are in the east and footloose, then go down to the coast somewheres. You don't need elevation if you have the ocean breeze. Go now before the hurricanes come.

It works that way in CA. Sacramento will be 100+, but it's in the 60-70s on the coast 50 miles or so away. San Francisco is downright cold in the summer time, due to fog rolling in the Golden Gate.

CO is good if above 9,000-10,000 feet, which is easy to get to. August in the Front Range at 5,000 feet is usually in the mid-high 90s.

Pretty much everywhere seems to be hot. Last summer I hid out on the Oregon Coast, after the Cascades caught on fire. Then the coast caught fire and the fog was mixed with smoke. This year I'm in CO and it's hot. No, you really wouldn't want to be in WNC in August. 90+ with near 100% humidity, no thanks. Good luck, if you find someplace cool let us all know [emoji41]

Flagstaff looks good for the next week... highs in the upper 70's and low 80's. nice

This is why I started my “adapting to the heat” thread.
So hard sometimes to find some place cool, not on fire, or not crowded during August.
Sigh

I would suggest Wisconsin - that's where I am, but everyone seems to be out west, so it's a long haul...
However there is no BLM land to speak of, so stealth camping is a must in towns, Walmart and Home Depot are also viable options.

Follow up, they recently held CampFest south of Leadville, and it was apparently quite nice. CamperVan Kevin has some videos from the fest, and also camping along the Arkansas River near Buena Vista. He's selling his Class-C and getting a 4WD truck with popup truck camper. There are some fires in CO, but they're small, not like in California.

I concur Olympic Peninsula in summer. You don't have to waste fuel climbing elevations. And beautiful.

Altitude is the answer, it was around 7,000' in the national forest up by the Grand Canyon.

Alas, soon we will have the opposite problem....

I've already slowly begun working my way down south for the winter. (Though I'm spending a few weeks at the Virginia shore first.)

You could summer in the highlands of Arizona & winter in the lowlands of Arizona, after the RTR Yuma is generally nice & warm!
