Where do you go in the summer?

I'm curious... when the temperature gets hot over the summer, where do most people go where the weather is cooler?

Usually higher in elevation, or further north.  

When I hit the road next year, I would prefer to spend my time in Oregon (I do love it there!), mostly near the coast.  Unfortunately, they've got some really pretty country and all of the beaches are public -- and they cost money.  There's no way that I can pay $32/night.  I will have to look around more closely when I get there.  Next choice is the Oregon Cascade Range.  Usually, it cooler, but not always, esp on the dry (east) side.

Yes, higher, farther north or to the coast. The summer of 2015 was ridiculously hot almost everywhere, but I was able to escape to the thin strip of reasonable temperatures along the Pacific coast. There was a lot of fog, but it was better than roasting.

I spent a month in NW Wyoming and SW Montana this last summer and absolutely loved it. Beautiful, beautiful country. Great temperatures. Lots to see and do (if you're into the outdoors, which I am.) Tons of wildlife. I'll definitely be heading back next year.

The last few weeks of 2014 summer I worked in central New Jersey. The heat and humidity were near intolerable some nights, even with a ventilation fan. The experience taught me to run from the heat.

2015 summer I worked in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Only 1800 feet of elevation but it only got above 80 degrees a couple of times and there was always a breeze in the Notch. Only one night that did not drop below 70; most were below 65. Even the lodge's guest rooms didn't have air conditioning. Up on the mountains it stayed in the 60s on the hottest summer afternoons. Plenty of fog, storms, and humidity though.

2016 summer I worked in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. 6800 feet of elevation, sunny and clear every day with all of four exceptions. Very low humidity, cool to cold nights and comfortably hot days (30 to 45 degree temperature swing throughout the season). No A/C in any of the cabins or employee dorms.

If you don't need to stay right on the beach, there are some free/cheap options in places. Oregon State parks are less than $30 for FHU, (less for electric only or tent) but tend to be full all summer unless you have reservations ($9 fee).

I've been dreaming of fleeing Texas to Colorado for the summer for a few years now. Unfortunately I got my van setup a little late for that, but I hope to do it next summer.

I like to go to Maine for the summer. I do hang out in Pennsylvania also because of family part of the summer depending on my work.

I'm usually in Salem, Oregon area during the summer time. I generally head to the coast or high in the Cascades during hot spells, unless work prevents me. A year ago, I spent half the summer in Aberdeen, Washington. It's on the ocean, beautiful area, and quite friendly to vandwellers. This summer, I was in Alaska and rarely saw temps over 80°. In fact it rained much that I'm white as a ghost. Lol I'll work on my tan this winter down in the southwest states.
