It's beginning to sound like we all need to buy a pair of G-string panties from Victoria's Secret and carry them in our emergency kit, along with the duct tape and baling wire . . .

no good hack mechanic would ever be without his vicegrips and jb weld

i had a early 80's subaru and luckily for me i was coming to a stop when it started to shack and shimmy, got out and front tire was leaning, the wheel hub nut on the halfshaft had stripped??? so i jacked it up,grabbed my hammer and a 16 penny duplex, hammered it in the cotter pin hole and drove home with a nail holding my wheel on

Didn't you listen to Gretchen Wilson?  You can get them from Walmart  1/2 price.

Its a long story. I was in my early 20's, full of vigor, and was having the time of my life.

The problem with repair shops isn't always dishonesty. Sometimes incompetence is in the mix. So when their high dollar repair didn't fix it, they say well you needed that as well.

In various different city/state locations I have had to find a mechanic I felt I could trust.

I have used Car Talk.   Their website is still active...and members post real reviews.
I have have very good experiences using them.
