What to do

What are we to do or how will I handle the next lock down? Should I buy a piece of land some where?  If you can't go state to state, park to park, and if you are not in a place you can stay till it is over, just what can you do?

If you are free to travel from your home base you shouldn't have any problems. I also don't think this shutdown will be as restrictive as the last one. We spent most of the spring and summer in states with low populations, mostly boondocking or staying in public campgrounds. It wasn't hard at all to find good camping spots. Of course you'll have to do some research and there will be some states that are more restrictive like New Mexico which closed state parks to people from other states.

I agree that you have to search about places that still have a restrictive shutdown. I think most places will be lenient in the coming months but with some health protocol that people still need to follow.

No one knows what the recommendations will be after January 2021 as the committee who will be making recommendations has not yet gotten started  on the process.

Don't forget there are now a great many vaccines in trial phase that are showing good results and will be released as soon as it is possible to safely do so. Also the stated intent is that they will be free to all citizens with the most vulnerable citizens getting them first. This is not a forever situation where travel and camping are going to be impacted by Covid 19 for many years to come.

If you want to buy land go for it. Nothing wrong with having a home base and a bit of property that belongs to you.

I was booted out of dispersed camping in the Chattahoochee National Forest in North Georgia back at the end of March - but frankly out West there wasn’t as much a problem. In Colorado, while rest areas were closed, BLM land and dispersed camping remained open. I camped across from Mesa Verde while the park itself was closed. The story was similar in other areas I believe.

If you come to southern AZ wear a mask please and use hand sanitizer. We get a lot of visitors here who have been to gatherings and it is pretty easy to get sick here. The extra germs creates a huge death toll in the rural areas.
