Anyone have a Christmas song that wrecks you?

If I hear "I'll Be Home For Christmas", even in a public place like the grocery store, I start to cry.  Too many years listening to it, wondering if that would be the year dad got to come home from whatever hellhole/war zone he was stationed in. Now that he's gone it bothers me even more.

Christmas (baby Please Come Home)

Oh, oh
Yeah, yeah oh oh
Ooh yeah
(Christmas) the snow's comin' down
(Christmas) I'm watchin' it fall
(Christmas) lots of people around
(Christmas) baby, please come home
(Christmas) the church bells in town
(Christmas) are ringing in song
(Christmas) full of happy sounds
(Christmas) baby, please come home
They're singing Deck The Halls
But it's not like Christmas at all
'Cause I remember when you were here
And all the fun we had last year
(Christmas) pretty lights on the tree
(Christmas) I'm watching them shine
(Christmas) you should be here with me
(Christmas) baby, please come home
They're singing Deck The Halls
But it's not like Christmas at all
'Cause I remember when you were here
And all the fun we had last year
(Christmas) if there was a way
(Christmas) I'd hold back this tear
(Christmas) but it's Christmas day
(Please) please
(Please) please
(Please) please
(Please) please (please)
Baby please come home (please)
(Christmas) baby please come home
(Christmas) baby please come home
(Christmas) baby please come home (Christmas)
Oh yeah yeah
(Christmas)
(Christmas)
(Christmas)

The entire Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack. My mother loved it and would "blast" it in her car at Christmas time, all the way laughing about all the kids on the road blasting rap music. She had a dry, unique sense of humor, which I always appreciated. She loved Peanuts and especially Snoopy. Oh, and Winnie the Pooh  :D I miss her dearly every single day  :(  Christmas has never been the same since she passed away.

Bells will be ringing the glad glad news
Oh what a Christmas to have the blues
My baby's gone, I have no friends
To wish me greetings once again

Choirs will be singing Silent Night
Oh Christmas carols by candle light
Please come home for Christmas
Please come home for Christmas
If not for Christmas by New Year's night

Grandma got run over by a reindeer. Poor old lady. I don't know that Santa had insurance.

Yep, I'll be home for Christmas is a sad one. Actually the holidays are a sad time for many. Media tells us how things should be, (but they really hardly ever are).
I try to stay out of the commercial part of the holiday. The only gifts I buy is through a local biker group who ride around and give out food, toys and bicycles. Their name is Tribe MC. There was about a hundred bikers show up this year. http://pvtimes.com/community/tribe-mc-deliver-christmas-spirit.html
Kids get a big kick out of all the bikes pulling up in front of their house. You wouldn't be able to hear sleighbells in the snow, (mostly Harleys). A trailer full of bikes comes with, along with a grocery truck as well. The head of the group "Red" is the guy on the far left of the pic in the link. He is quite active in his church. They have a food bank and give out food 6 days a week.

Christmas day I will be doing a meals on wheels type of thing with a different buddy and his church. For me it is not about partying with people, but the love of Jesus Christ.

Christmas Shoes - About the little boy who wanted to buy a pair of shoes for his mom who was dying. My mom passed away when I was 16. The Christmas before she passed was a tough one. This song gets me every time.

Scarlet Ribbons. I knew it had something to do with ribbons!

Same Old Lang Syne

I know you have heard it.   A chance meeting between two old romances who reflect the different paths they have taken while drinking a six pack in a car.  What might have been, what is.

Dan Fogelberg, he went to university here where I live, us oldsters know exactly where each part of that song took place, although none of them are there anymore.  Really miss him, he was far too young to die.

The Little Boy Santa Claus Forgot

Nat King Cole

He's the little boy that Santa Clause forgot,
And goodness knows, he didn't want a lot.

He sent a note to Santa
For some soldiers and a drum,
It broke his little heart
When he found Santa hadn't come.

In the street he envies all those lucky boys,
Then wanders home to last year's broken toys.
I'm so sorry for that laddie,
He hasn't got a daddy,
The little boy that Santa Clause forgot.

Spoken:
(You know, Christmas comes but once a year for every girl and boy,
The laughter and the joy they find in each brand new toy.
I'll tell you of a little boy that lives across the way...
This little fella's Christmas is just another day.
He's the little boy that Santa Claus forgot,
And goodness knows, he didn't want a lot.)

In the street he envies all those lucky boys,
Then wanders home to last year's broken toys.
I'm so sorry for that laddie,
He hasn't got a daddy,
The little boy that Santa Clause forgot.

Dropkick Murphys - "The Season's Upon Us

The season's upon us, it's that time of year
Brandy and eggnog, there's plenty of cheer
There's lights on the trees
And there's wreaths to be hung
There's mischief and mayhem
And songs to be sung

There's bells and there's holly, the kids are gung-ho
True love finds a kiss beneath fresh mistletoe
Some families are messed up while others are fine
If you think yours is crazy
Well you should see mine

My sisters are whack-jobs, I wish I had none
Their husbands are losers and so are their sons
My nephew's a horrible, wise little twit
He once gave me a gift wrapped box full of shit

He likes to pelt carolers with icy snow balls
I'd like to take him out back
And deck more than the halls
With family like this, I would have to confess
I'd be better off lonely, distraught and depressed

The season's upon us, it's that time of year
Brandy and eggnog, there's plenty of cheer
There's lights on the trees
And there's wreaths to be hung
There's mischief and mayhem and songs to be sung
They call this Christmas where I'm from

My mom likes to cook, push our buttons and prod
My brother just brought home another big broad
The eyes roll and whispers come loud

From the kitchen I'd come home more often
If they'd only quit bitching

Dad, on the other hand's a selfish old sod
Drinks whiskey alone with my miserable dog
Who won't run or fetch, yeah, he couldn't care less
He defiled my teddy bear and left me the mess

The season's upon us, it's that time of year
Brandy and eggnog, there's plenty of cheer
There's lights on the trees
And there's wreaths to be hung
There's mischief and mayhem and songs to be sung
They call this Christmas where I'm from

The table's set, we raise a toast
The Father, Son and the Holy Ghost
I'm so glad this day only comes once a year
You can keep your opinions, your presents, your “Happy New Year”
They call this Christmas where I'm from
They call this Christmas where I'm from

Baby please come home always gets me. Lost my gf to cancer in my early 20's near Christmas.

And it's not a song, but the gross over commercialization of Christmas truly saddens me.

My Father is a Swede, and every year since well before I was born, he or one of his other two brothers would host traditional Swedish Xmas gathering with many Family members in attendance.

There would always be a round of songs sung in Swedish, which nobody but he or his two brothers could really contribute to, but it was always enjoyable to see them hoist their Aquavit high and Sing loudly, and when I was older and was allowed to hoist the Aquavit, I Did so.

More recently the second wife of my Dad's eldest brother got a huge bug up her butt about my Father, so It was down to two brothers on the Xmas gatherings, and sadly these two brothers/ best friends rarely get to see each other anymore in their final years because of her need to be the eternal victim. But my Old man also has no intentions of spending any time in the same room as her either, so it is not all on her. BS really, but old people are cantankerous.

Anyway, those songs they sung together, which I had assumed were Xmas songs, turned out to simply be drinking songs, much to my embarrassment when I tried to hook up with a Swedish girl when in my late teens. :)

Since the eldest of 3 brothers and his family no longer attends the Xmas gatherings, and my Dad was prone to getting grumpy, My sister decided she'd rather go to her future X boyfriend's family house in the mid west, and last year It was only me and my parents and the one younger brother, and it was kind of boring. A quick going through the motions. Little singing, little drinking, Little merriment.

This Year, My dad wanted the whole family together, but my sister wanted to go elsewhere again for Xmas, So we gathered for Thanksgiving instead, and I stayed out west for this Xmas as I can't afford to travel X country twice in so short a timespan, and My old man had neither of his children there this Xmas when he was due to be the Host.

So When we spoke tonight, at 7PM EST, I had just finished acquiring the ingredients for the traditional beer we would drink which is kind of like a black and tan with a splash of Port Wine we called Yule Ale. I saw Some Aquavit at BevMo, but passed, as that stuff is...... an Acquired taste.

Some Friends invited me over for Dinner, and I mixed what we called the Jule ale, using Stella Artois, Guinness Stout and some Tawny port, and at one point they humored me When I pulled up this song on my phone that my Father and his Brothers would always sing at Christmas while taking shots of Aquavit and the rest of us would be chasing with Yule Ale.

One is supposed to drink their shot of Aquavit, at the pause at 19 seconds.

We always sung a 'HEY' at the end of the song which signaled a refilling of the shot glasses with more Aquavit and a short time before another 'Xmas' song would ensue, but 'Helan Gar' was always the goto song that most could at least contribute somewhat to.

Makes me sad that the two best friends/ brothers cannot spend Christmas together anymore in their final years. Makes me sad as I was not there either to spend Xmas time with my 79 year old father.

I would much rather fly cross country for Xmas, rather than Thanksgiving.

This is another one that they loved to sing:

The lyrics roughly translate to:
Life is hard and short, so let's get drunk.

This one we would all hold hands and kind of travel around every room in the house, and afterwards pass out the presents:

A dozen years back or so we had some Swedish Relatives visiting from Sweden, and they were surprised that my father and brothers continued the tradition, The eldest relative said he barely remembered doing so when he was really young and the tradition was not continued among the branch of the family who stayed in Sweden.

This one brings tears to my eyes just from the beauty of the voices.
