I used to pick fruit professionally ($350+/6-8hr day) and did a bit of treeplanting up north.. before my back went. Now it's a guvmint disability cheque. Oh well.. gotta roll with the punches. ..Willy.

When I first started travelling in a VW bus back in the late '70s I was a framing carpenter. In some places I lived at the job site and had power or even setup sleeping arrangements in the houses or apartments I was helping to build. Denver, OKC, and Houston area. Plenty of work after hurricanes that hit Galveston in '83. My back couldn't take it, so it was stix and brix until '06. I lived on savings and sold motorcycle parts on eBay while travelling in a Class B. I'm on SSI now and augment my income by parting a bike out occasionally.

Drive trucks and live in them when out working. I'm getting tired of the 70 hour week work schedule, getting to be to much for me. I'd rather be out enjoying life than working all the time!

Software engineering contract work is what we hope to try.

Something like a six month contract taken once every 18 months spread over the new year to reduce taxes would be ideal.

I am not sure what the going rate is for contracts that short, but longer contracts of say 9 months pay upwards of $20,000 a month.

That would be $60K each year for two years, working 6 months out of 24. 18 months of vacation every two years doesn't seem like a bad way to live.

The question is how hard it might be to find a 6 month contract that starts around October and ends in March...

Other option is just to live super cheap on BLM land off of current savings with a hefty portion of rice and beans or beans and rice or any combination thereof. Might not be a bad way to live also, and doesn't require the headache of trying to job hunt.
