Weird Under Carriage on RV

Hello Folks!

Just bought a 2010 Starcraft Travel Star 27' and I just noticed something weird going on under the RV; attached are the pictures.

It looks like they put some type of vinyl siding under the entire RV?

Anyone see anything like this before?

Looking into this a big more and it seems like it's black corrogated plastic (https://www.homedepot.com/p/48-in-x...ed-Plastic-Sheet-10-Pack-COR4896-BK/205051024). and they used that spay foam to fill any gaps around the black tank.

Anyone know if this is stock from the factory?

Definitely not stock from factory!

It looks like someone was trying to 'winterize' the undercarriage with a lack of technical ability!

If they used a whole lot of that spray foam it's going to be a total PITA to try to remove it all BUT access to all the wiring, plumbing and mechanical parts is under that plastic and the spray foam

You have my sympathy!

I was thinking the same thing, hopefully it's not as bad as I think.  Luckily I don't need to get under there any time soon.

actually I have seen that material come on trailers from the factory. I am not sure what the purpose is. the fill foam I have no idea. highdesertranger

That is common on newer RV's, on my 2017 Outback trailer it is part of the "Arctic Barrier" insulation package, factory installed.

For those that said this comes on newer RVs: have you ever had work done that would require the bottom plastic to be removed?  Would they just take the entire thing off and put it back when they were done?

My RV is a 2010, so i suppose it isn't that old, maybe it came stock?

I have the same thing on my 2018 Jayco Travel Trailer. It is an option on the Rocky Mountain Edition, which includes the Thermal Package.

I have that panel type stuff under my 5th wheel. When work needed to be done underneath someone cut a three sided square. Taped it back up when finished.

I have that paneling on my 2017 5th wheeler. I haven’t had work done yet so not sure how they handle it.

I had same corrugated stuff on my 2007 Keystone VR1 travel trailer.
It was installed at keystone factory.
Only mine didn’t have spray foam.
It was pretty solid across the entire under carriage (no gaps).
I did cut a 3 sided box opening one winter to place a 60 watt incandescent light in there to make sure my tanks didn’t freeze - worked good.

Another benefit of those under carriage covers is aerodynamics. I’m sure it helps minimize the wind turbulence going down the highway.

But yes any major work under there would require taking it down to get at everything.
