Want to weigh your mobile dwelling and you are passing through Alamogordo, NM?  I weighed my van yesterday and it was fast and easy.  I began by filling the gas tank so future weighing would be more accurate.

Kent Kwik Truck Center (Texaco) across from Lowe's Hardware.  Take the entrance that goes to the big truck parking. The scales have a big CAT (certified automatic ticket) sign above them.   Drive up on the platform.  Get out and press the button on the only pole nearby.  It's like pressing a coin.  Has no give.  Within seconds you will hear a voice:

What produce are you weighing?  I chose personal vehicle.
First or second weighing?  First and only.
What do you want to call it?  Dodge van.

Heck it happened so quick I almost didn't get my foot off the scale platform.  A slight click and the voice says pay $11 at the register.  Move your vehicle to one of the many empty places and wander in to the register.  Fork over money and cashier hands you a printout.  Done.

I had failed to see that there were multiple sections to the scale.  However, I parked in just the right spot and the scale weighed the front separate from the back.

They used to have really good food in that restaurant too!

I assume they still do.

And while parked there I used to get a great free wifi signal from the Lowes next door.

The space history museum in Alamogordo is very nice. :)

Yes the space museum is. Don't forget White Sands and hanging out in the Sacramento mountains. On the weekends Sunspot observatory is open. For children of the 50s and 60s space race it is an awesome piece of history.
