Diane (dragonflyinthesky) stuck here in Beckley WV. Can't log into my acct so I made this temp acct.
Trying to get to Lake Panoffskee. I don't think I will be able to get out of here today. The Mr Buddy heater doesn't work for me under 10 degrees with this wind so I'm in a motel.

[emoji26] that has to be an insulation issue. For me, even in -15 degree weather, and I don't have Mr Buddy running all night, my van is 20 to 40 degrees warmer in the morning when I wake up, usually around 4:30am.

My little camper leaks air like a screen room and I think its insulated with Kleenex.
Here it is in Bexley WV.  I hope I can leave tomorrow morning but there is still lots of ice I need to get through as well as snow. They don't seem to be as prepared for snow down here.

[emoji26] Yeah, I hear Kleenex doesn't insulate that well...

Not Safe for Work!!!

I sleep in my un-insulated and far from airtight van down into the single digits, but lean on friends and family when it gets below 0degF--just a few nights so far.

But I'm prep'd for it: ENO doublenest hammock, -20degF rated sleeping bag, Thermarest and doubled over moving pad under the bag, ghetto-rigged comforter under insulation below the hammock, two layers of arctic rated long undewear plus a hoodie and wool socks...

I use a Buddy heater only when changing clothes before and after climbing into bed -- would not hesitate to use it and be comfy even in below-zero temps.

The reason I come to SW Florida for the winter season is that most days in the winter Fort Myers is the warmest spot in the 48 states and I am 20 miles north of Fort Myers.

BUT this winter has been quite cool and with cold fronts that produce rain almost on a weekly basis. This is not my first Florida snowbird rodeo nor will it be my last but the next few days are going to be brutal.

The temp is going down to 38 tonight with a high of just 54 tomorrow with 20mph NW wind then a hard freeze down to 30 that will take out many of the tropical plants in the area.

I hope you all can be sympatric to my plight for I have been in South Florida since early November and am not accustomed to such awful conditions.

You all up in the frozen North can do your part by praying for a mild March since I need to get back to the Pocono’s by April 1 to file my taxes and reup my food stamps.
