Somehow we have gone off the rails when it comes to the topics of Solar and electrical issues for nomadic living.

Unfortunately, several of us have forgotten the purpose of this forum so let me remind you:

We Are Here to HELP People

I'm going to say it again because it's amazing how easily we forget this simple truth:

We Are Here to HELP People

Now, let me tell you what we are NOT here for:

  1. We are not here to get in pissing contests about who knows the most.
  2. We are not here to debate obscure and unimportant aspects of solar/electrical.
  3. We are not here to show everyone how much more we know than them and how little they know.
  4. We are not here to baffle newcomers with lingo and jargon.
We are NEVER here to blame someone who has asked us for help that they just need to try harder and do their own research.

I believe many of our threads are actually doing more harm than good because we are doing all those things and not focusing on our main goal which is to HELP PEOPLE.

Here it is in a nutshell:

  1. If your post isn't for the purpose of being helpful because you care about people, don't post it.
  2. It doesn't matter how much of an expert you are, if you aren't a good enough teacher to make it simple and understandable, then don't post. It's better for you to be silent than confuse and frustrate people.
  3. If you aren't willing to take the time to actually be helpful to others, then don't post.
I'm sure this little reminder will get us back on track and we can look forward to many more threads of great information on solar/electrical.

I need help. So, I don't know exactly what I am doing. That's why I'm here, to ask for help and to meet like mined people. I will help with what I can but please be patient with me. Thank you

Thanks, Bob. We do tend to forget our manners.

... and a huge & hearty thank you to you all for being such a big help to this old newb. I rarely post questions as mine are typical to so many other's and I'm sure that they've been asked before. I'll search this forum with confidence that in due time I'll have an answer, even through what appears to be a pissin' contest there may be some helpful info. I've recently entered this arena after 4 decades of tent & backpack and have witnessed pissin' contests there as well involving the "best tent" or the "best sleeping bag" etc... and it's not pretty there either. I'm reminded of a reply that Jim recently posted in a thread, "How Much Solar Do I Need" may be it, where he observes that the argument aught not be about what's the best, but what's the best for the individual. And to that end I say thank you for your help everyone, for this past spring I was as green as the new sprout regarding power needs/consumption/supply and through this forum alone, along with manufacturer's websites, I obtained answers to guide me through the forest of products & their associated requirements, and with a long term view I've added and properly located a Victron BMV700 battery monitor, exchanged the two group 24's for two Crown GC2's, added a ProMariner 12/50 charger, (and of course the properly sized wire, breakers, fuses, and switches of which I knew nothing before your help), and am currently waiting for finances to catch up with my solar aspirations, as this is now the only obstacle thanks to all your help people. This is an amazing forum and you are amazing people, and as a species we will fly off the rails now & then and be reminded of how flawed we are either within the thread or thru a dedicated one such as this, then get back to being amazing and help each other. There's not a member of this forum that I do not look forward to meeting, and until then...

I'm on a few forums. And I've come and gone from a few others. But this one is my favorites. It has a community about it that is just missing in most forums. Actually on most forums you don't even know who is running it. The forum is just there to primarily make money for whoever started it up. Bob started this forum but takes an active role in being a part of it and fostering the culture that has developed here. It makes a big difference and is probably one of the big reasons I like it here so much.

There is a ton of good information on the forum but it's more then that. Especially for those out on the road. I finally went full time the beginning of this month and it makes me realize more then ever that this is a forum of like minded people. A community. And I just want to say that I'm glad to be a part of it.

I hope to make it to the RTR this year so that I can meet as many as possible. It will be nice to get to know in person the people I feel like I already know just from being on the forum.

I feel I've learned a great deal in this forum. What I've experienced is the willingness of the people in this forum to help you. I've watched. People here in my experience have been positive and willing to share what's worked best for them and to pass it a long. And I ask some pretty dumb questions! Seriously between your videos and the people in this forum I couldn't be more happy that I found everyone. I run a big social media page with over 230,000 followers so once in a while you may get someone having a bad day. See you on the road soon! Thank you for everything Bob!

This is the only forum I belong to, grateful to have received so much help.  Great to stay on track and know the purpose, so thank you Bob.  Thank you to all the helpers out there too.  I'll be with you as I learn more to try to pay it forward.

As some of my forum friends know, I have a three-inch thick binder full of helpful information I printed off the forums and also got from the utube videos. I have learned so much about what to do and not do, what to buy and not buy, etc. If I had started out without all this information I would have made many expensive mistakes. I'm still trying to get out there, but in the meantime, I'm learning more every day. Thanks to all who are willing to share their experience and expertise. You are helping more people than you could possibly know, and, like Bob says, that's what the forums are for.

Thank you, Bob. I was completely lost. No one in the couple of threads I read seemed to be deliberately talking over my head, but the more I read, the less I wanted to ask whatever ignorant question I had. It's exactly this, combined with the encouraging welcome I received, as well as your and others' videos on your channel, that gave me the courage to throw caution to the wind, grab my ailing husband, and get going. I thank you, and look forward to meeting you and others from this forum at the RTR!
