Hi Nicole,

Yes, retired. I should not have retired the same month my apartment lease ended. Too aggressive a schedule. I did get moved out finally last Monday. Tuesday I left NJ for a shake down van trip to Sky Line Drive State Forest in NY. It had been storming for a week in the area. I did not know that. The Susquehana river is over islands in the middle with trees growing up out of the river. Off the beaten path is mud. Fun though. It is cooler near the trees.

I am hanging for a bit in a day park with picnic tables. I unpacked and repacked for the second or third time. The weather goes from sunny to storm quickly and often, then back to sunny.

Off topic, my solar panels were working great in front of my apt last week. Lately I haven't been able to get 14v out of them. I have bneen relying on the generator to charge. I haven't hooked up the alternator circuit.

It is great not to be sitting in a cube waiting for the next inevitable crisis.

Thanks for the follow up.

Yay!!!

Good for you. It's so cool to walk away, isn't it? Did you have to pinch yourself a few times just to make sure this is happening? Hope your solar situation works itself out soon...like a bit more sun would be a plus.

Congratulations and many happy years of travel!

Hi,

Solar is working now, not sure why it wasn't before. Spiritual issue, maybe.

It is nice in this state forest. Ranger came through today. Nice young guy. no fees here, do need a permit for longer than three nights. He gave me his mobile number to call him if I plan on staying longer than three nights.

I have the solar panels free standing in the available sunshine and people have asked me about solar and how I use it.

Going well.

Thanks.

Sounds like the Freedom is working out for you! I escaped the Cube Farm about this time last year. Haven't looked back. Now you find out it's hard to find the time to get done all those things you thought retirement would give you the time to do...... :)

Welcome to the uselessly lazy club. A great feeling...

Congratulations Wayne! :)

Brian and I wish you all that you wish for yourself. Hoping to meet you someday soon - God Willing.

Shabbat shalom,

Jesse.

Update.

I have been spending as much time as possible dispersed camped in PA and NY SF, when I am not volunteering at the local county stable. I used the trips to figure out van dwelling and what to do differently and what not to do at all.

When I was high school age during summer vacation my mother would take me up to the family cabin near Duluth on Friday and leave me there for the work week. Being alone out in the woods reminded of that time of complete freedom roaming the woods with no schedule or external forces. I love it. Coming back to civilization causes internal dissonance.

Now I am getting ready to migrate to warmer climes for the winter. It will be the first winter away from the North since 1978, when I went to Ft Lauderdale from January to June. I plan on heading to Ehrenberg. It is one area of the US that I have never spent any time.

Thanks to the forum, and especially Sternwake, for information and product recommendations in the electrical realm. A clamp on ammeter has been instructive as to how much current is being put in during charging and how much is being used by the different loads. I bought the Uni-T model.

Take care.

Thanks for the update, I saw your name here recently and I was wondering how you were doing. Good luck on the next stage of your travels.

Nicole

Sounds wonderful, so glad you're finding your bliss.

I'm not so sure that I EVER want to retire!

Everyone I know who has retired, all say the same thing...

"I'm so darn busy, now that I've retired...how did I ever hold a job???!!!"

Well, being self employed, and as crazy busy as I am...why would I want to make myself even BUSIER??!!! :p

Guess I'll work 'till I drop.

Congrats on making the jump, and all the best in your new life! :D
