I have a 1992 Dodge Ram B250 conversion van. When I ripped the carpet out, I discovered it was damp near the back doors. Further investigation revealed that water is getting in around the door seals/gasket during hard, sideways blowing rain. Checked for leaks at high top seam and rain gutter, but didn't find any -- the door seals/gaskets are just worn and floppy after 25 years. Tried bringing in the striker bars as much as possible (think I saw that tip here), but it just made the water come in at a different point.

Here's my question - I can't find any seals specifically designed for my van online, just universal weatherstripping. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best brand/type or any other advice about solving this problem?

I went through the same issues with my 1989 Dodge van, and I recall seeing new ones for the barn doors online, dang if I recall. I just went to the wrecking yard and carefully removed one set, gently prying each push pin out, and it worked fine. Total cost $10.00.

another tip, when installing, WD40, or soapy water in the chanel makes it a lot easier

Have you tried Rock Auto online?  They carry pretty much anything a vehicle needs, usually sourced from multiple manufacturers.

I looked last night.  (I have the same problem)

I could find NOTHING  :(

For my Dodge van's rear door leaking during heavy rain, I went to the hardware store and bought a roll of Neoprene door seal. 3/8 wide and 1/4 thick. It was like 20 bux and the door never leaked again.

I gave you all sources for them. go to the link I posted, click on one of the pics it will open a window that tells you where to get them and even gives you a link to the website. highdesertranger

I spent an hour going over them.   :(

Nobody had back door seals for that generation Dodge van.

I guess not, it's 79-93 for the second generation. it's odd the older ones and the newer ones are easy to find. I have had this problem with Dodge's before, unavailable parts. highdesertranger

If you cant find your fit...cut off a section and take it into any parts store.
Buy a length of the same style as is OEM.

As long as the van hasn't been involved in an accident (bent body, doors, latches, or hinges), the new weatherstrip will seal properly.

Also check that your hinges are tight. Open the door and lift up on the door. If the door wiggles, it may be time to repair or replace the hinges.
Also check the door stops and latches. They might be out of whack and need adjustment or replaced

Are the rear seals the same style as the front doors? In other words, universal?
If the weatherstrip you get has the same profile/shape and groove you will be good. Just trim to fit.

JCWhitney has a bunch of different styles of weatherstripping. Just go to the JC site and enter in your van's info. Then peruse the 26 different styles of weatherstripping they offer, and pick one that matches what you have.. Buy enough to do your doors.

Dodge B series can be divided into three "series" 1971-1978. 1979-1993. and then 1994 -2003. Door seals pretty much follow the same year/series groupings. As far as I know and can see on-line and my local NAPA auto, back door/side door seals are no longer available for Dodge vans from 1978 on up. So your limited to NOS stuff on EBay when they pop up, or wrecking yard seals. It's kind of a bummer. Econoline van seals are still made, and easily available. (I just ordered a full set for my E150)

Where did you place it, steamjam1? Did you put it around the door frame or on the doors themselves? If I can't find the right weatherstripping for $40 or less, I may try this.

I just went over my back door jams.  It would fit on the metal.

Because of the design of the weatherstrip, there is a rubber flap designed to be at the inside top and bottom corners. Those doors are different from any other door.  Regular off the roll weatherstrip will not work.  The only possible solution is to do what Steamjam wrote.  The flat stuff on the frame while leaving the original in place on the doors.

I just used the strips (They are self adhesive backed) on the van body to work in conjunction with the doors original door seals. Its not a perfect solution as buying new door seals would be, but in a pinch, has worked well over these few years. Since the beginning of the year, in my area, we got 101 inches of rain. Not one drop leaked into the 'ol Dodge.

i just saw one of those car repair shows and they were doing weather stripping,,,i looked up the cost on line,,,HOLEY SMOKES THAT STUFF IS $$$$$$$$

Maybe some kind of automotive rain gutter or channel stuck just above the door would keep most of the water away from door?

Just an idea I had.
