I don't know about other parts of the country. But the two major AM radio talk stations here in LA are conducting a campaign of hate against anyone without a permanent residential address. John and Ken on KFI (640 AM) and Dr. Drew on KABC (790 AM) just turning their shows into nothing but hating the homeless hours.

John and Ken refer to the homeless as "vagrants". They do not limit their hating to the ever expanding skid row area of LA, but also have callers from other areas of Southern California and around the country call in with their problems with tent cities sprouting up everywhere. They pander to their callers' NIMBYist concerns, offering only sweeping the homeless away as a solution. Where to they have no answer. I have to imagine their ultimate solution would be some kind of concentration camp.

Dr. Drew, who used to do a show on rock station KROQ where he snorted cocaine while discussing sex with teens is medical addiction specialist. He sees all homeless as mentally ill and addicted to street drugs. His constant drum-beat is that the homeless are bringing on disease epidemic. While the first course of action might seem to provide the homeless with sanitary facilities, the city claims it would cost them half a million dollars a year to maintain porta-poties to the homeless. Drew's plan is to herd all homeless into drug rehab and mental illness treatment centers where those in his industry will reap fantastic rewards at taxpayer expense. When you give a job to a carpenter, he tries to solve every problem with a hammer.

I realize that most who read this forum are not "homeless" - at least not by every definition. But in the minds of some, you are. You can ignore this. But eventually this growing sentiment will catch up to every person who does not qualify for the upcoming federal identification card - the Real ID. Once the national security state, kick-started by GW Bush following the 9/11 attacks, has divided America into Real ID and not Real ID, the real nightmare will begin.

Easy solution - get a passport. Or passport card. Is considered as real ID.

The name will evolve. But the purpose remains the same. The national security state wants to know where you are at all times. Coming right out and saying we're going to make everyone have to have a national ID card didn't go over well. So they're letting states do the work for them, which will be a national ID card. Which I have no problem with. What's problematic is the way they're sneaking it through the states, leading people (dumb people) to believe this "Real ID" is only a state matter that won't affect them in other states and that they will leave behind if they move to another state or live stateless/nomadically. Don't be fooled and think getting a "domicile" state license will satisfy the needs of the national security state to pin you down to a location or make a fugitive out of you.

There's a group of RVs and tents that are more or less permanently on Sepulveda Blvd, under the 10 freeway. When we drove by there yesterday, sanitation workers were loading piles of trash and debris into trucks. An LAPD cruiser was on the scene. We thought, "Uh-oh, looks like they're being run off." But when we went past today the RVs and tent were still there, only without the trash. I'm curious what will happen next.

Here's a Google Street View from a couple of years back. There are more RVs and vans and the roof of the blue & white RV is now covered with huge potted plants (not cannabis).

I'm with Roadstar66. Being a nomad is counter culture and therefore considered subversive by TPTB. The mechanism for control was set in motion long before the Real ID Act. There will come a day when we will no longer be able to obtain our basic necessities because we refuse to comply with X, Y and Z (think national ID, chip implant, permanent address, etc.). It may turn out that those involved in HOWA are targeted and the organization hounded or its tax-exempt status revoked because it is working outside "the system."

Here's a couple of related articles I ran across lately. Note that the first one means that if you are stealth camping in Seattle, they might count you as homeless -
https://www.yesmagazine.org/people-power/parking-cities-affordable-housing-rvs-20190712

And I thought this one was a bit ironic, given the recent clean-up at Ehrenburg (not saying that this was the case there) -
https://www.kiro7.com/news/local/il...ess-encampments-rising-dramatically/805601197

I don't know what would signal to TPTB that an RV traveler is not the same as a homeless person, other than the difference between tidiness and untidiness.

Every time some new city bans overnighting or parking, they ALWAYS give the same reasons for it:

1. people who park in the same place forever and don't move

2. people who dump their shit (literally) on the street

3. people who panhandle everyone in sight

Though we dwellers are not their target--we are just collateral damage--it is a sad fact that a small handful of dwellers also act like idiots, and they are the ones who cause all the problems for the rest of us. As a community, we have always been our own worst enemy.

all humans have almost always been their own worst enemy :( or become the target of others.

won't change point blank. can't. the ideals we strive don't fit into every day life of the general population cause everyone has such individual goas/purposes in life and if others don't fit....targeted.

realID, etc, yea all for tracking and more. I get it.

thing is at what point do humans who live XYC tolerate the others that live ABC? laws/enforcement etc will come into play tougher and tougher and bandaid fixes will try to work and they won't.

nothing will truly change in all this in our lifetimes. Way down the road, 60-80 years...ugh I hate to think.

humans know so much yet won't act on the real issues, never have truly and never will.

Yes, but the vast majority of the city's homeless ARE addicts and/or mentally ill.  They ARE centers for infectious diseases. The sidewalks ARE filling with tents, used needles, human poop and spaced out addicts and roving crazy people. Providing porta potties for these people and trying to maintain them IS going to be help a expensive. Society is under no obligation to tolerate this.

Personally, I would start with the addicts. Clear the tents away, arrest public poppers for indecency, and put addicts who shoot up on the streets in jail for long enough to make an impression on them. Get them off the streets so the city can function. Addicts whose heads get cleared and decide to get rehab can be helped. Frankly I am not going to worry about those who choose not to get help. If they overdose and die in a hole, so be it. They did it to themselves.

The mentally ill can be next. Many of those diagnosed as mentally can be helped with medication to nearly normal lives. They can also be helped. Re-open the mental institutions. Open dispersal stations where they get their medication and take them under supervision. If they try to skip and have any history of violence, lock them up until they comply.

If addicts don't like the crack down, they have a choice. They are not trapped. They can go somewhere else. An awful lot of them originally came from somewhere else in the first place and only came to the city because of the flourishing drug culture there. Get rid of it. It is destructive to the addicts and the normal residents.

If the mentally ill don't like being confined, they can be compliant with their meds and get counseling to work towards being as stable and independent as possible. Most mentally ill people are not violent. As for the violent ones, lock them up. They can't help themselves, others can't help them, they cannot be allowed to victimize the rest of society.

Yes, I know there will still be homeless people. Job training and affordable housing needs to be addressed. But if they are not bothering anyone else and they choose live that way, let them.

Trouble getting a Real ID? Who is here legally and cannot get a Real ID? I do not understand the problem.

Trust me. As a former (and future) S&B dweller, I can tell you that the vast majority of S&B dwellers  don't give a hoot how you want to live. They just don't want you bothering them with it. Obey the law. Don't leave trash everywhere. Don't pester them by panhandling. Don't demand special treatment or special facilities or expect them to subsidize your lifestyle with their taxes. Respect their rights as you expect them to respect yours. It really is that simple.

Pretty soon the government will control all housing. They will assign you a job. Give you a food card. Inspect your dwellings. Cars will be automated nd owned by the government and you will call one when you need it. The tv in your home will record audio and video24/7 and police will be on the other end inspecting files uploaded to them when AI detects certain keywords and actions.

Try to enjoy your freedom while you still can.

Alas, as a society, we decided long ago that we simply don't give a shit what happens to homeless people (as long as they are not cluttering up our own sidewalk), and we don't want to do anything to help them.

A sad reflection on what is after all the wealthiest society to have ever existed in all of human history.

But this is a discussion that happens regularly here, and never changes. :)

If homeless people were dogs they would get a lot more sympathy and money

So, instead of complaining about the blight a wishing the "government" would do something, shouldn't the discussion be about what to do? Solutions are needed, not complaining about the state of affairs.

I think the consensus has been you can't help people that don't want it. They just trash whatever is "given" to them. Only if they have ownership of something, they "might" take care of it.

Has anyone recommended actually enforcing and following the United States Constitution? Worked pretty well in the past.

ok I am on the fence about closing this thread. speculating about conspiracy theories will get it done fast. also falsely accusing people you don't agree with might get you warning points. highdesertranger
