As I'm preparing to hit the road, I've had a lot of support & encouragement from friends. One of them sent me this article, which I thought some people here might also enjoy

I agree that a person can learn a lot when they travel.  You can pick up on new ideas and experience how others
think compared to what you have been used to "back home".

A person has to realize that there are 9 different (and possibly more) types of intelligence. Travel will expose
you to fresh input for the intelligence types that you possess.  Perhaps it is Natural Intelligence and you like to
spend most of your time camping and being as one with the wilderness.  Then, that can just be part of it as you
travel.

The 9 types of intelligence

Ever wonder what types of intelligence you have ?  and how much of each ?   Quiz:

http://www.literacynet.org/mi/assessment/findyourstrengths.html

Remember, you can take this quiz a few times a year and average your scores for a better picture.
We're all works in progress.

It makes perfect sense, wanderlust has, at its core, curiosity; and in some cases escape.

It makes friends and family crazy that I won't "stay put", I should work harder, save more, build a better retirement, and not upset the apple cart so much. Oh well, my life, my endless curiosity.

I was told that Samuel Clements, (Mark Twain), said something like don't tell me what you know, tell me where you have been. I heard about this quote from a PBS travel show. I couldn't find it on the net. One that I did find I really like. I never could tell a lie that anyone would doubt, nor a truth that anybody would believe.
I tell people that I was in the Navy, Back closer to the days of wooden ships and iron men. From there I guess they can form an opinion of me. Maybe one that isn't flattering.

This page has some great quotes from him about travel. http://www.twainquotes.com/Travel.html

“Twenty years from now

you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do

than by the ones you did do…

Explore. Dream. Discover.”

– Mark Twain

My three greatest strengths in the quiz came up as Spatial, Interpersonal and Language - not surprising.  But, a few questions were a combination of two opposing choices, so I had to go with a 3, rather than answer properly for one choice.  As with any of these type tests, it is heavily skewed by the writer's biases.

Mine were Logic/Math, Nature and Language, in that order. And I do agree about questionnaire biases.

Social, language, self, nature...

Interesting...I do love being social, tho I'm an introvert in that I recharge by being alone...and busy, loud, bright light multisensory social situations overload my neuro system!....

Thanks for sharing!

My 3 highest were: 4 Logic/Math, 4 Social and 3.71 Self. Spatial was my worst at 1.67 and that plays out in my life in general and I even remember in those tests in school, those boxes laid out flat and you weren't supposed to pick the box that matched what it would look like when you folded it together. I also had a really difficult time in drafting class.

I'm the opposite.  Always have done superbly in spatial, and poorly in social.  Those patterning tests were easy for me.  Helped in my IT career, as it really helps to be able to see patterns in programming.
I was always pretty much a loner growing up, having no real 'peers'.  I'm friendly enough and get along well with others, just don't find many others with my interests or aptitudes.
My math skills were less than stellar too, and luckily math isn't a heavy need in most business applications programming.  The formulae I needed have been long established.

Social 5
Musical 4.86 Nature 4.42 ...Language 4.29....Math at the bottom....I do not have a clue what any of this means...
Not speaking of my self...I would guess that a curious mind comes from a desire to learn and experience new things and adventures...I don't know that any of this has any relevance to anything or the way I am living these days...

I've always enjoyed travelling, and like seeing new places.  Wish I'd gotten a van earlier, when I was doing a lot of crosscountry driving in my Navy days.  I could have done more sightseeing.  Whether having a 'travelling spirit' makes us smarter, who knows?

You and I are exactly alike in that.

So I have to wonder how we both ended up at Silly Al's Pizza on Karaoke night, the loudest night of the week!!?

I had to wear earplugs to get through it.  :p But for such wonderful friends you're just willing to make sacrifices.

It's been awhile since I've taken it but I was surprised by my score.   I scored almost equally the same on all
but a bit higher in the "Kinesthetic" & "Spacial" intelligence.

And I agree that test and quizzes have their limits.

That's why those using test to evaluate often refer to Burroughs Mental Measurement.  (they evaluate test) ;)

But I just offered that quiz for fun.  LOL

I think I have a five word answer:

"Free pizza with Great Friends!"
