I read somewhere that a good test of whether a given TP was safe for holding-tank use was to put some in a jar of water, shake it up, & if it dissolves, it's safe. Tried this with WalMart TP & it seemed to dissolve pretty easily, so I've been using it. I hope it isn't gonna clog up my holding tank or mess up the float for the level gauge.

Anybody else using this stuff in their tanks? Any problems?

If it says bio-degradable on the label,it is generally safe to use. Is yours the wal-mart store brand,or coleman?
Joey, I'm using the actual WalMart brand, cuz it's the cheapest, but Bio-Degradable doesn't necessarily mean it would be safe for your tanks. Lots of things are Bio-Degradable, but take various lengths of time. Paper towels for example would be Bio-Degradable, but would definitely cause problems in holding tanks, cuz they take too long to break down.

Having survived the (thankfully brief) TP shortage of the 70s (anybody remember that?), I've been paranoid about running out ever since, so I always stay well stocked. When I gave the house away & moved into the camper last month, I had roughly a 2-year supply of WalMart brand butt-wipe stockpiled, which is now stored in my little barn. I sure don't wanna have to buy more when I already have that much on hand, not to mention the exorbitant price of the "RV grade" stuff.

...unless I have to.

We do our best not to soil in the RV toilet, we're pretty regular so we make stops at places with clean facilities, but sometimes it's unavoidable. I hate the RV paper which seems to dissolve in my hand, at times. We often keep a sealed container with plastic bag for used TP, rather than fouling up the system. Just a thought.

A less expensive alternative is Scotts single ply. I have been using it for years with no problem.
Tony & Karen, yeah, that's been the plan all along, thanx!

Seraphim, thanx! Unfortunately, I don't have a choice but to use mine every day, cuz I'm living in it, & it's stationary, not on the road. Prolly never will be, in fact. It's basically serving as a mini mobile home.

Owl, thanx! Is the Scott's cheaper than the WallyWorld brand, maybe cuz it's single ply? I do prefer the 2 ply stuff, besides which I've got so darn much OF it!

One thing's for sure, in the event of some sort of apocalypse, with a 2-year supply of buttwipe, I may starve, die of thirst, or be eaten by zombies or roving gangs of starving crazies, but at least I'll have a clean butt...

Yes, it's cheaper, more rolls for the $. As for the clean butt, it's technique, not the paper used. Some folks use leafs. Just be sure not to use cactus "leafs". Maybe a you tube video is in order. Any volunteers? Nah, scratch that!

I buy a TP from WM called "Bathroom Tissue" distributed by WM. Has 4 two-ply rolls and is labeled as "safe for standard septic systems" and costs only 86 cents. It's soft and looks like it would fall apart easily in water

Well...other than the great laugh Joey gave me...I can't join in much...no toilet!

Rae

Joey

If zombies were running about, I'm not sure about the clean butt part lol.

Owl

If scratching is what you want, try poison ivy leaves

Good point. Hadn't considered that...

Seraphim, what do you mean " if " zombies are running about? Everyone knows they are!

I was lucky enough to spend some time, a few yrs back, North of the Arctic Circle in a little village called Fort Yukon. There, every toilet, both private and public, has signage warning users, on penalty of village wide humiliation at least, to NEVER EVER EVER flush any non-human waste material EVER!!!! They have only had a septic system for about 5 yrs and the whole village is on the same, relatively small network. There are still MANY houses with out-houses. I wouldn't mind the out-house all the time if it didn't get down to -50* there annually!

We had to stop in Fairbanks on the way up there and I talked to a guy outside a Fred Meyer. Within 30 minutes he was sharing how long it took human waste to freeze at various temps. He lived in a "dry cabin" and basically LuggableLoo-ed it, then placed it on the porch to freeze. But, if it freezes totally solid it wouldn't come out of the bucket and defrosting is apparently unpleasant.

The things people will talk about! Ain't life GRAND?!?!

Peace, Love and Regular Bowels.... Right On!
Bodhi

Yeah, that stuff is precisely my point. At close to a buck a roll for "RV Safe" buttwipe, I'd much rather use the cheap stuff which is about 1/4 the price, as long as it's not gonna cause problems. Especially when I have roughly a 2 year supply of the stuff stockpiled, which is why I asked the questions "Anybody else using this stuff in their tanks?" and "Any problems?"
