I found this cruising around the internet - https://www.mpowerd.com/products It looks like ideal lighting for both inside and out - small, inexpensive to buy and it throws a lot of light. I don't have one so I can't give a review but if I do buy one I'll let everyone know if it's any good.

WWW.NOKERO.COM. Check out their solar powered light bulb. They also have a youtube vid. Seems like one of those ideas that brings together a few modern technologies in an affordable, durable, ecologically responsible and extremely practical product which completely changes the game, at least in the third world.

Tell me these wouldn't be a great lighting solution for us. Set a few on the dash during the day, string them up outside at night. Just one could light an interior rather well.

I have several of these Luci solar lanterns. I tested the first one I bought by charging it in sunlight for a couple of days (to ensure it had a full charge), then turning it on Low at about 7:00 PM and leaving it in my bathroom. By next morning at 6:00 AM, it still gave off enough light for me to read.

Actually, I almost started a new thread about the Luci solar lantern, until I did a search for "lantern" and found this thread (searching for "luci" didn't turn up any posts about the Luci solar lantern).

thanks for the review. so aurictech you would recommend these and which ones do you have? there are 3 or 4 different ones. highdesertranger

I wholeheartedly recommend them, as do a couple of my friends who also like camping. The ones I bought appear to be marketed as Luci Outdoor lanterns, as they had the blue packaging. At the time I bought them, they were the only Luci lanterns on the market. They appear to have identical specifications (except that, for some reason, they define 1m^2 differently in terms of lighted square feet).

I also have one Luci Aura lantern, just because I wanted one. A friend of mine liked the Luci Aura I gave her as a birthday gift, and I suspect that a coworker's toddler daughter would like one as a birthday present next year (when she's old enough to operate it, as opposed to being old enough only to admire the changing colors).

As for the Luci Lux, I've only seen it once, and that was in a well-illuminated exhibition hall. Obviously, that's not the best setting in which to evaluate a lantern....

I've been using a Luci for over a year. Dont hardly run flahlights anymore. It provides light to read by. MPowered company has been great. The plastic handles don't last in the desert sun. Dont over inflate ehen changing altatude or climates. And hook it on your backpack when hiking.
Of course I also have a head lamp and candles.

that the weirdest amazon page I have ever seen. is that amazon Canada or something? highdesertranger

I got my Luci solar lamp. It's pretty cool. I think I'll just hang it somewhere so the battery (bottom of lantern) is facing out a window. Then at night it will light.

Thanks, TonyandKaren!

I just got one and I think I'm gonna love it. It's ultra lightweight, compactable, has two brightnesses, has a flasher (white light) and although it takes 8 hours to fully charge, says it can put out 12 hours of light, so pretty cool. And it's waterproof so can be outside in rain. Extra cool for Oregon!

UPDATE: The REI Web site has begun selling the Luci Outdoor and Luci Lux solar lanterns.  They are also available at the Tucson REI brick-and-mortar store.  I bought a Luci Lux as a companion to my other Luci lanterns.  Because the Luci Lux has a frosted surface, it doesn't have the glare of the Luci Original/Luci Outdoor lanterns.  However, that also means that the Luci Lux seems a little less bright, compared to the other two lanterns.  It's nice to have options....

I bought some Luci lights and some Apollo's for myself and gifts. The Luci's are doing well, but one of the Apollo's was defective and the plastic separated from the base, so I cut it off and still use it. The QC at Apollo is definitely more lax on all the ones I received.
I see Apollo's are currently unavailable- maybe a good thing.
