just got the 50 bucks 5 gig plan bought a unit at the flea for 20 bucks.
the Verizon guy activated it. i will try it on our trip to Chicago.

An amplifier I love and highly recommend is Wilson Sleek. It recieves the 4g signal from the external antenna and rebroadcasts it as 5 wifi signals so anything can read it. My Jetpack almost always picks up at least 2 extra bars with it.

If it's older it may not do 4g. That would a deal breaker for me, the savings wouldn't be worth it!!

Right now Verizon has a Jetpack for $1 with a new 2 year contract. If you just got the plan you can still get it or cancel the plan and get a new one.

I believe it to be 4g and since I walked in with a unit I was offered a month to month plan in which case I can test it and see if I even need this device as i have no problem without it.

Those wifi devices cost either very little or are free. That's cuz Verizon wants you to pay out of the ying yang for their monthly plans. It's important to find out what the cost is for overage fees. For example, will it cost an extra $10 for each 1 GB if you go over your allotment?

Adrian, I have the same jetpack and verizon plan, has worked well all over the country. Except in the capitol city of New Hampshire, and that is with the Wilson Amplifier, barely pick up 1xxx.

Hey and hello graybeard. Good to hear. at the same flea I bought 2 1 terabit ssd's loaded with movies 1400 total so being I don't go to the movies chances are I have never seen most. 50 bucks each. Will not be youtubing or dwnloading a bunch of junk.
Caseyc: Thanks for the heads up on overage, and glad your fine.
