It would have been interesting to lived in those times although challenging.  But creativity, innovation, and sweat could 
pay off for those who toiled at it.   Also there was print media in those years like we have the internet today.  Many things existed to showcase peoples builds and projects much like Make and Instructables showcase today.

But if you like nostalgia there is plenty of interesting stuff from the 30's and before in this site.  And it may give you an insight to what people may have been doing when camping in the 1930's.  Today we may be looking at stuff on our cells, listening to music on our Mp3's or flying our Drones and taking pictures.  Back then women may have been tatting lace while the men were building fishing lures or tying flies or learning bench craft skills. 

This just to offer some more looks back into the past and what it would have been like on a daily basis.
