Yesterday I got a form from the VA to show that I have been covered for the year by VA Healthcare to use to file tax forms.  So, be on the lookout for it if you are signed up with them.  IRS Form 1095-B

Snow gypsy, I don't understand this. What do they want? What's the point? I didn't get anything in the mail from them but I almost never use the VA except for dental.

Looks like I'm going to have to file taxes this year and I haven't filed since - a jillion years I guess. It's been so long I'm confused about the whole process. My income hasn't been taxable since the early 90s and I'm lost.

It is required by the Affordable Care Act. VA Healthcare meets the requirements of the law.

I still don't get why you have to file a tax form that says you got health care from the VA. I don't understand what one has to do with the other?

Never mind. I get it... I completely forgot that everyone has to have some kind of proof of insurance now. I've been out of the taxed world forever... I wonder if you don't have to file taxes do you still have to send some sort of form in to somewhere? I'm still not positive that I have to file taxes this year. I do have some taxable income at this point now but doesn't that have to be a certain amount before you have to file?

Cammalu: I only posted to let those whose mail may go through a friend/relative, etc. that they should expect this. I'll post to the thread again when the tax booklets are out and see where this info is being put and any explanations. I can help you figure out who you need to talk to if you have questions that we can't find the answers to. I have been filing my own taxes since forever and love to ask questions. Don't worry about it. If you don't get the form and need it, that could be addressed also. I am sure it will take some much longer to get their forms but always make sure they have your current address since, every once in awhile, they send something in the mail.

I believe everyone is now supposed to file in order to show health coverage even if no tax is owed. You can see FAQs at irs.gov

Thanks. The whole filing tax thing after so long has me a little unnerved. I'll probably have to go to a professional. I sold some land about two years ago and didn't file so I have some back pedaling to do. Then I bought a couple rental houses as an investment to complicate matters further. Trying to get a bunch of papers together when I don't know what I even need stresses me to the max. I hate anything having to do with math...

It's not the math, it's the government.  It seems you have the math part worked out, it's filing with the IRS that is getting to you.

I've never had any math part of anything worked out [emoji15]
