using a tent at the RTR

I have done this and it is doable. stay away from tall flimsy tents as they will be blowing in the wind ground cover pads cushions will become very important, to enjoy the full effect of camping at the RTR you need a good nite sleep. I find water is a great way to ground a tent gallons placed at corners weight inside the tent, do not tent in a wash even if the sky is clear and full of stars. (learned the hard way in 1989).

I’ve tent camped out there 3 years in a row. I normally stay 4-5 days... I use free weight discs in the interior and 3/8” x 6” lag bolts driven in the ground for anchors with para cord tie downs back to the tent. I use two quilts for base on the interior, self inflating bed pad, sleeping bag and a micro fiber topper. Don’t leave your chairs, table, rugs, etc out in the wind... they’ll end up in Phoenix....

I also have my heart set on some tent camping but when I was looking at the rules they said "No tents" in the LTVA. What exactly are they saying? Why no tents?

We were a young couple tent camping in a wash just west of a Santa Fe NM clear skies asleep in love 3 am I noticed our foam pad was soaked and heard water no rain but it had rained some 200 miles east of us woke her up and quickly moved the tent and Volvo station wagon out of that wash. 1989
